Morning all. A misty start to the day, but the sun has broken through, and it is supposed to be dry throughout. Migration of the cranes starts towards the end of November when they fly south directly over the house. They return from their warmer winter feeding grounds during February. On my trips to the physio I have been passing several fields of stubble where several hundred birds have been set up for the past month. This I have never seen before. They come down and roost for a night, but are gone the next morning normally, so to be there for four weeks suggests that it is warm enough for them not to go to the plains of Spain. This has to be a sign of climate change. Certainly, the days are a few degrees warmer than can be expected at this time of year when you look at the averages over the past decade. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Our late Christmas cards arrived today

The postman had the bare faced cheek to say "sorry for the delay but we are a bit stretched at the moment"

I wonder what could possibly have caused that

Morning all. Dry and bright today, but it doesn't feel so warm. Our family members left reluctantly this morning to return to the UK. They have been working on many things to help out, and there is now a log pile large enough to see us through the winter, hopefully. They have made a massive attack on the brambles that were trying to take over, and burnt them. They find it relaxing working in the fields, and enjoy the peace and quiet, so different to the constant stream of traffic going past their house. They have a lot of things from our supermarket that are not seen, or are more expensive at home. I must now restock the cellar that is looking in a sorry state. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. Overcast, but dry. So very quiet now without visitors. Back to the jobs now. A movement sensor over the steps outside has died, and the ladder will have to come out to fix the new one in place. Should be simple if the inlet for the wiring is similar to the old one. Still that will have to wait now the visitors have cleared us out of bread. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

My first bird watching trip out after a years gap..... thankfully the guide could discriminate between marsh harriers and floaters and the calls of a snipe to tinnitus.

Some advice needed from anyone capable of 'out-of-the-box' thinking.
My wife recently hinted that next month is our 31st wedding anniversary, the traditional gift for which is 'timepiece'. Neither of us can wear a wristwatch, we aren't particularly keen on fob watches and the house is full of clocks - so I'm stuck for ideas. I doubt she'd appreciate a picture of the Rookery Clock, so has anyone got any thoughts on something loosely connected to 'timepiece'?

I took Mme back in time by arranging a trip to the Monet gardens. Arranged for tickets and hotel, then gave her an envelope with all the details. It pleased her, and I shared the pleasure. So something historical is a suggestion.
