I'd be amazed if we wernt in for Berge given the mess at Shef United. Loan with a decent buy in the summer clause if we stay up. Prem experience. Good age. Emmediate upgrade and a proper Romeu replacement. Him and pay up for a Loftus Cheek type on loan and loan out Diallo. Then a striker and things start to look a little different. Felt inevitably doomed vs Forest. A spiral of negativity and pressure on and off the pitch. I'd hate for us to go down with a whimper and having piled heaps of pressure on such a young squad.
Yeah, I did say ****e I do think it’s plausible, though. Who out of any of us thought Villa would offer £30m for Ings?
Haha fair enough! Yeah it was a fantastic deal for us, but only because he would have left for free in 1 year. An English striker banging in 15-20 goals a season with a long term contract is worth more than £25-£30m.
And whatever it is I’d wager it’s not as big as the mess here. They look to have a very good chance of going up automatically
I would like to hope if this is true this isn't another 'How the f--- did he miss that?' Championship striker because it does strike me that we are just not learning any lessons.
Well he’s scored 13 in 19 appearances this season, so he knows the approximate location of the goal. I know, I know, you’re going to come back at me with Adam Armstrong and Che Adams, but proven Premier League strikers don’t come cheap.
What's our obsession with buying championship strikers based on one decent season? Planning for the future perhaps?
To be fair I was really excited by Armstrong, he was a mental striker in the Championship, I guessed he wouldn't get as many as at that level but I was sure he'd contribute and knock a few in - he scored on his debut, magic. I really didn't expect him to fall so far, so quickly, at this club. Perhaps the players are good and it's the club that ruins them? I mean I know nothing and I am generally demonstrably wrong in my opinions.
****ing hell. 27 years old and has never had a particularly good goal scoring season in his career. He has had a good half this season and we think he is the solution. I am worried we are only signing him because he will be pretty cheap and is fairly big - more long ball crap?
I’m going to await Schad’s likely analysis on the guy before worrying too much. He was nailed on correct when it came to Adarma.
No guarentees either way, but seems unlikely that a guy that has a very limited goal scoring record over many years in the lower leagues, who has had half a season of good goal scoring form in the Championship, is the player to step up and score the goals we need to stay up in the Premier League. He's also 'only' 6ft so if we are trying to bring in a big target man for our beautiful long ball from defence to attack game, then he doesn't really seem ideal for that either. There must be better options out there.
Beto who was linked previously is 6”4 so he seems to make more sense. Obviously these links could all be bollocks, including the Akpom ones
I was reading recently that Michael Carrick is doing a great job there, since becoming manager a few months back. Will be interesting if he maintains that start.
I watched him a couple of times at Blackburn and wasn’t convinced he would score goals at PL level as he basically just shot from everywhere (something he actually doesn’t do anymore). The commentators said during the Forest game that he had 1 goal in 38 appearances I think, sure most came off the bench I’d imagine but still that’s proper Shane Long levels
