Dave Horseman has done a decent job with the B team over the last couple of seasons. think we can sack the Welsh Napoleon and put Dave in charge whilst we get someone in.
Bascially echoing exactly what a couple of us said before he was appointed, but people on here called any negativity hysterical bedwetting. @LincolnSaint was one. He was spot on. You can’t hire a rookie with these young players. It’s ****ing obvious. He doesn’t have the time to **** about and realise how 5 at the back doesn’t work. I guess the positive is somehow we still aren’t half way through the season. But he needs to sort it the **** out. Amazing to hear how much success he’s had with a diamond when our players clearly suit that formation more than 5 at the back.
I did put forward a suggestion, on yesterday’s match thread, as to how I can see a back 3 working, involving 2 diamonds. A flat diamond consisting of the 3CBs and Lavia being the first. The second diamond is narrow but through the middle of the park, with Lavia at the base, JWP and AN Other ahead of him with a “number 10” at the top of the diamond. This would give a compact midfield that could generate triangles with the wing backs giving the width, with a lone striker going wherever he’s needed. Against Forest we almost went that way, but had 2 strikers, which I think made it easier for them to defend against us. If Mara, or even Stuart had played as a 10, dropping off to link with the other attacking midfielders, we could have worked some potential 1-2 moves on the edge of the box, with JWP or Moi running between the CBs, but it didn’t happen.
If it was going to happen following that performance and result, surely it would have happened today. So question now is, how much time do we think SR are going to give him? Is it NJ until the end of the season now regardless of performances and results or is there a tipping point where SR will throw one last roll of the dice at survival? Because if it’s the later then we really can’t afford too many more games without a win. Especially against our supposed relegation rivals.
Probably similar to the figures for Lawrie M in 1975, however common sense won and the rest is history as they say.
The guy on SaintsWeb who was the first to mention Nathan Jones all the way back in October, has just posted this. Makes you wonder. "Could anyone link me a bookies that lets you lay a bet on a new manager for a club even if they have not sacked the current one yet. Cheers in advance and PS this is not gossip just preparation."
