I'd like to see other people's view's on here. out of our current squad and if everyone was fully fit and available who would be your 11 go to players . forget subs. just your 11 men you would go to war with on the field in Jesse's formation. also of that 11 you choose what player/Players do you still think need upgrading. Just interested in seeing how much we differ.
Contraversial I know but I almost put Wober in as LCB and put Firpo back in. No Bamford for me Meslier Kristensen, Koch, Struijk, Wober Adams, Roca Summerville Aaronson, Sinisterra Rodrigo
Meslier, Rasmus, Llorente, Coops, Dallas, Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Harrison Summerville, Bamford, Sinisterra. Jeez that team’s probably gonna get tonked….this is harder than I thought
Pretty much this. Maybe keep Struijk at LB and Wober at centre half because we are soooo sloooow centrally. Bear in mind I have no idea who Wober is. I'm just presuming he's better than we have. Looks a really solid team that apart from the back 4.
Honestly believe that with a settled back four we can improve massively and my personal opinion is that Llorente is better than Koch provided he has the right players around and alongside him.
have to say my team is exactly the same as Doc's so no point writing it out. as on upgrades a new striker to replace Rodders.
Maybe the defensive issue we all worry about just means not leaving the 2 CBs whoever they me be, left out on a limb with Struijk and Kristensen on the half way line and everyone else in the opposition box. We may be unfair on the CBS because not many from any club can stop the 7th cavalry when a ball over the top and 25yds to run into can kill any team…. Look at Brentford Liverpool for example. Jesse needs to protect his defenders by his tactics maybe?
We lack any pace across the back line. Llorente is probably the quickest and I reckon I can beat him over 10 yards. Doc has a good point in that we tend to defend well when sitting deep like against Newcastle and also when we played with 10 men vs Villa. Didn't work too well against City.
Really difficult to argue against Doc’s team though for the sake of variety / debate. Most of our better defensive performances were with the Llorente/ Cooper combination. Think I would go Wober at LB as that’s what we bought him for and like Emu presuming he is an upgrade. There’s the width of a risla paper between Ayling/Kritensen. Would like to somehow squeeze Gnonto into the starting team, possibly for Sinisterra. With all of the squad though we seriously lack pace, agility and body strength.
In my head I picked docs team, concluding I didn’t care who played right back or right cb. I then realised I’d left Jack, paddy and Willy out ( whose been our best player recently). Jammy reminded me about Dallas. I’m still not convinced aaronson is much of an upgrade on klich. I think some of it comes down to combinations and types of game… paddy and Jack probably get us up the pitch better, Jimmy and rod more if a goal threat. I guess it’s a squad game these days and fully fit it looks like we have decent options, with the exception (to me) of centre back and left back - subject to how wober turns out.
Though we definitely had a spell in the PL where we looked better at the back… when we put a good run together towards the end of the first season back… with Coops and llorente. It was relatively fleeting though. We leaked heavily against better opposition under bielsa and had guys charging through bus sized holes down the middle against us. Now they charge down the sides. I’ve said countless times that I don’t think being a cb under bielsa or marsch is an easy gig… and we selected our cb’s to be ball players first and defenders second. My take is it’s a double whammy - you need strong athletic and mobile defenders to play for bielsa or marsch.. in this league. And we don’t have them. Understandable so… the van dijk’s of this world aren’t cheap.
Hey what if Wober is really pacy and that turns Firpo into a great attacking full back ? Beers are going down well if anyone was wondering
Totally agree being a Leeds Defender is no easy task under the current regime When we attack we try to attack with numbers our Fbacks are committed when we go forwars and losing the ball with a ball over the top to the wings leaves acres down each of our flanks we then try to play it as 3 cbacks who won't commit to the wide area's sometimes this can look suicidal with all the space and it's hands over eyes time. It's how Jesse plays and I guess we gonna have to accept it while he's here. Yet the last two games City,Barcodes he has played more compact in trying to play a better defensive shape. But be sure Tomorrow against Wet Spam we will go back to our way. The formation can look good when we are pressing a team unable to cope but most teams in the Prem find a way because the quality is very good. Under Jesse it's going to be a roller coaster ride and as Milky says the calibre of player "defender" needed for his type of football have to be very good in many attributes as well as being very good defensive footballers. There is going to be many ups and downs still with us. some games we will look like relegation fodder yet some we will look a solid team. Its a formation that can make you look very good when its working but when its not it looks very bad. Lets get this train back on the track tomorrow and 3 points.
Must be home brew, they don't surely make one that strong enough to support that claim........ bottoms up
The defenders need to be very good in this type of system or, as scum and Southampton found out, it only works in weaker leagues where the forwards don’t punish you as they’re not as prolific.
Meslier Ayling, Koch, Cooper, Dallas Adams Roca Summerville Klich Sinisterra Bamford Probably going to be a bit controversial here and slightly negative however I’ve not put Wober in as I’ve yet to see him play and I think a fully fit Dallas gets us up the pitch more at LB however I’m hoping Wober makes himself a mainstay in the team. It’s on a knife edge between Ayling/Kristensen and Koch/Llorente however I still think we need better in both positions. I think Cooper is a better defender than Struijk but I understand he’s the natural successor to him however I’m not fully convinced he’s the world beater people seem to think he is, a good solid player but I still think he’s prone to mistakes (not saying Cooper isn’t but I just think he’s more solid and puts his body on the line). I think Meslier is a great keeper and shot stopper but his distribution does my head in as it goes out of play or straight back to the opposition but if he had good distribution he’d probably be one of the best keepers in the world and being so young he can certainly strive to be, Will his distribution get better the older he gets? Only time will tell but if it does he’ll be one of the best if not the best eventually. Think Adams and Roca are a great CM pairing, no upgrading needed but could do with some cover and healthy competition, I don’t think Greenwood is this but Gyabi is a possibility, would be good to upgrade once Forshaw leaves and let Gyabi get some first team football out on loan. From what we’ve seen Gnoto or Summerville should get one of the wide options along with Sinisterra, jury still out on all 3 if they can do it consistently however if they can they should be fighting it out for 2 of those positions - Harrison could be a world beater if his decision making was better but he’s consistently proven that he’s inconsistent unfortunately but a great squad player to have in this league. Gone for Klich in CAM as he’s more of an attacker player and has an attacking mind rather than a CM. On his day is movement is unreal and it creates so much space for our attackers and for me Aaronson still has a lot to prove and hopefully he can be that player but right now he looks too lightweight for this league and needs to start adding goals/assists to his game or he’s going to become another expensive runner, for me I still think we haven’t replaced Pablo which is obviously never going to be easy. Like I said hopefully Aaronson can be become that player as he’s still very young. A fully fit Bamford changes the way we play for the better as he can hold the ball up, assist and doesn’t stop pressing (he’s a great presser as well) however I don’t think a fully fit Bamford will ever be back but he’d be my first choice if it was possible as Rodrigo (as good as he’s been this season) hinders how the whole team play and we can’t afford passengers right now, great player in there but I wish he was just a bit younger/fitter/less lazy at times, upgrade in the number 9 position needed due to this and Bamfords injury issues. So in conclusion we need upgrading in most positions but I guess until we’re a top top team that will always be the case, even then I’m sure Man City fans always want more.
Meslier, Ayling, Koch, Wober, Dallas, Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Harrison Summerville, Rodrigo, Sinisterra Really need to see Wober play first so I’m gambling with him, we still need a few replacements but I’d reserve judgement until I saw how they complimented each other. I remember so many times under Bielsa how important it was to get all the small cogs in the right place I don’t believe Dallas will return the same person but the question was fully fit injury free. I feel as an attacking entity Dallas, Harrison and Sinisterra would compliment each other very well, likewise the right hand side the engine of Aaronson, Ayling liking to get forward and Summerville the main attacking threat
Meslier Ayling Koch Cooper Dallas Adams Greenwood Sinisterra Rodrigo Gnonto Bamford. I think what Greenwood offers over dead balls sways it above Roca I think Gnonto keeps his place as he's earned it in front of Harrison and Jimmy. Rodrigo instead of Aaronsson because he's scored 10 already and doesn't really play as CF. Sinisterra was class before his injury. Ayling offers much more going forward than Rasmus. Cooper is your voice at the back, without him no one takes control. Koch because Llorente looks ****e at RCB. I was going to put Firpo in just to piss Emu off
