No one said it's not legal just so impractical for both the purchaser and seller.

If you see something wrong on your statement just contact your bank and they'll sort it out, but think surely the club could deal with issues with charges better than installing cash registers.

Contact my Bank? Its my word against there's and it's £30, not worth the hour and a half on the phone. Whilst cash is legal tender there should be a choice of how you pay, not just at football but everywhere. I was in a pub last week in Stratford, waited ten minutes to get served at a bar four deep, four drinks handed over, £20 note handed over by me for payment only to be told sternly 'It's card only' HTF was I to know, I don't live in Stratford, never been in the pub before in my life? I didn't have my card with me so the drinks were handed back and words were exchanged. They made me feel like a criminal for wanting to spend £20 with them. Not a card fan me, I see it as control, and I don't like being controlled.

Erm, no. Don't trust on line anything , never mind on line Banking. I have a mobile obviously but I've even been scammed on that, took me over a year to get my cash back off EE and hours and hours of phone calls, emails and shop visits, the last one was when I refused to leave the shop until they had sorted the problem.

There's a campaign here with retailers asking all customers to pay in cash, due to the charges the banks take on card payments.

It's rather pointless, as banks are gradually increasing their charges on banking cash and soon it will cost more than card transactions anyway.

Handling cash is far more expensive than digital transactions, so they're obviously going to charge more for handling it eventually.

Ten years ago around half of all purchases were in cash, it's less than 15% of purchases now and still falling.

I know. Although I'd question the 15%, obviously not taking into account takeaways and Chinese nail salons. Banks are making enough money in other ways, one of them by paying a pittance in interest, if anything at all, on savings, so having a teller handle a bit of cash now and again should not be a major dent in their profits. That's if you can find a Bank to take your cash too to be counted/exchanged. I still see it as control and it is now accepted, more so by the younger generation, and as result cash will be only seen in a museum show case in less than ten years time. Then we might see an outcry.

I'm a bit like you Urika.I use card occasionally and when strictly necessary but check my transaction that day and keep receipts until they've cleared completely.I just give a rather bemused look when the person behind the till asks "would you like a receipt"? Of course I want a ****ing receipt!!

Have you ever heard of Monzo cards? They're brilliant!! You feed it from your current account and they link to your mobile via an app and the minute you spend your phone pings and shows the transaction...

If something suspicious occurs on your card, you can freeze it immediately.

Great to use abroad too as you get the best available exchange rate.

You may as well be speaking in *****lian Ric. Monzo cards? Didn't we used to save them as kids, free in a packet of chewing gum? I have one app, the NHS app. I wanted to know the results of a test I had in November. Suppose to make things easier 'use the NHS app'. I did, it told me to ring my doctor. I was 200th in the queue but my call was important to them. My doctor used to know me personally, he knew my kids. Today I don't know who my doctor is or where 'my' surgery is. And I still don't know the results of my heart scan. App, my arse.

I dunno about over there but here it's not about your word against theirs, the bank will refund you the overcharge and will chase it up with the vendor.

If you've got online banking, you should be able to check everything instantly anyway, without the need to feed a separate card or get another app.

When I pay with my phone within 5-10 seconds of paying I get an alert on my phone with the amount and itemised transaction of what I've bought. Brilliant and simple. I also just have a habit of reviewing my credit card every week or so so know exactly what transactions have gone through it.

As OLM mentioned, whatever bank you're with should have an app you can check wherever and whenever and see instantly what your transaction listing is.

My missus refuses to have online banking and she orders quite a lot of stuff online, but without double verification via the app, they won't authorise the purchase and I end up having to pay.

I've got online banking but if you go abroad they apply charges for transactions, anything from paying for a meal to withdrawing currency. It's handy at home too because as I said,You get a ping immediately and if you lose it you can block it immediately..

With Santander or similar you have to phone and stop the card.
