Somewhere out there, in the unfathomable depths of the universe, there is an equation that somehow connects 1899 getting cancelled with us rediscovering how to play football
4-0 FT. Mixed first half, very impressive second half. They fell apart after we got the opener and it could've been more, really. Very happy with that, both as a result and an overall performance.
Gil and Sarr showing why they were (still are) labelled as two of Europe's best talents when we signed them. Both deserve more game time. Kane just two away from Greaves now, three to beat him… witnessing Spurs history here, incredible. Nice to watch some good football for a change too, been far too long.
One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is how Conte was forced to call on Gil and Sarr, and both of them delivered when called upon Obviously neither of them should be replacing Kulusevski or Bentancur in the starting xi, but they've certainly shown that we shouldn't be sending their relatives Proof of Life photos every few months
I thought Will Hughes worked the ball into some good positions when he came on. Palace may have been better off starting him in the middle and playing Schlupp at left-back. Ward was getting drawn inside a lot and it left lots of space for Doherty.
All aboard the Harvey White hype train now, I think Conte likes the kid too. He’s got a really nice left foot. Absolute blitz on the second half though. I thought Gil had a really good second half and credit to him, he works his socks off even if he’s not physically where you’d want him to be. His movement off the ball is really nice. Sarr had a great sub performance too. The midfield was much better the second 45 mins and that helped us get up the pitch because we could cut the supply to their pacy forwards a bit. Kane had an absolute monster of a second half too, goals, all around forward play. He got the balance of his positioning much better, in terms of the balance of dropping off and leading the line. It’s just one game and we have been inconsistent but we have to use this to kick start our season now. Kane is looking in really good form and with the other forwards coming back to fitness along with Bentancur, we need to hit the straps a bit. Sonny turning a corner would be the icing on the cake but that’s far from a given. Tricky decision who starts at the weekend now but we’ll have over a week between the FA Cup game and the NLD so I feel like we can afford to go strong, particularly with the forwards because we likely don’t have many other fit options.
I was suggesting Will Hughes as a potential signing a couple of summers ago, as he's the sort of CM we needed who could win the ball and get it moving very quickly Not a glamourous signing, but given how dismal our midfield was at controlling games under both the ubermensch and Nuno, a midfield containing him and Hojbjerg would've been nice and combative
