5 at the back, against a club who haven’t scored away from home since August. Lyanco over CC, a manager who has more excuses than a peado in Legoland, and owners that won’t spend a million more on experienced internationals as they’d have little re sale value. What have SR done to this great club of ours??
I didn’t think Edozie would start having started the last 2 in less than a week and coming off against Fulham with a slight knock/cramp. I did think Djenepo would be his replacement though
In theory I don’t mind back 3/5 formations when used well But I genuinely cannot think of a time Saints , under any manager, have used it well, other than to put up a full on defensive effort against Man City I’ll still hold out hope that this works out , but I do struggle to get enthusiastic about it when I see the line up
5-3-2 used right is actually attacking, the wingbacks effectively make it a 5 man midfield and 3 defenders. We never do it right though
This. We have to get the wingbacks forward tonight. My one thing I'm hanging onto is that Jones should know how to use the formation effectively having used it with Luton to good effect.
I think his strategy at Luton was for a centre back to ping it up to a big striker who flicks it on for runners. Our “runners” are Ely who is slow as **** and JWP who only goes in oppo half to miss pens and take free kicks. Hopefully playing with Mara gives Che someone to flick it to
Happy to see Lavia start but shame that Edozie is presumably not fit to start. Not so happy with 5 at the back but if we grab a 1 nil it is a good result.
This is how I see it. Always felt like tonight was huge for his tenure and the tone surrounding it and that lineup is painting him into a corner if we fail tonight.
Jones says he doesn’t have the players to play his system, but continues to pick his system to start games, realising at half time that he doesn’t have the players to play this system, so revert’s to a 442 of which he does have the players to play that system. SR seriously picked this bloke to get us out of the ****?? If I hear him say one more time, “Southampton don’t win games”, and “I’m not a miracle worker, it will take time”, I’m done
I'm awaiting this light show with bated breath. Maybe it will blind all the fans so we're all spared the football.
Do we think if we lose tonight there is still enough time in the January window to get Poch in and sign Mbappe from PSG?
