Not in the slightest, I am saying that in my opinion Oscar is a pretty average player and has had a fair bit of fortune to have 11 goals in 23 games. People seemed to be suggesting he is something special, I disagree. He was a free transfer for a reason. I've said before Acun spunked money on several players we did not need and probably should have gone for some proven Championship players including a striker. If Oscar scores 20+ goals then I will have been proven wrong, it is no big deal just an opinion I just think he has had an awful lot of luck.
Not sure why Hull Live are even running this story, they've already run a story where Rosie's said we're not in for him.
He was a free transfer because he ran his contract down. Messi was a free transfer too, not sure why you think him being a free transfer means anything about his quality.
People seem to struggle with the concept. At least it's stopped the talking about playing out from the back for a while.
Opinions are fine if they're backed by logic. "Oscar is bad because we got him instead of Liverpool" isn't really that.
That's all fair enough. I'd simply say we make our own luck. I think he has a striker's brain and he's the best we've had for a long time at finding the back of the net, even through dour circumstances. The transfer fee thing doesn't really add up though. Plenty of great players have moved on a free.
I said several posts ago and in the past I respect the 'you have to be there to score' argument which is probably the counter argument of him being lucky and unlike some I am very happy for my thoughts to be proven to be a load of rubbish and he goes on to be a huge asset to the club and score 20 goals a year etc etc. Just playing devils advocate and suggesting he might not be 'all that'. I think if he was that good several clubs would have wanted him on a free, there didnt appear to be much interest for him given how easy we got him compared to the others we were linked to at the time. That is all hearsay though I accept that.
I don't think we got him particularly easily but as you say that's hard to prove one way or the other.
I think it's harsh to say he's been lucky to be on 11 goals. Until recently we didn't create all that much. There was a long spell of maybe a couple of months where he barely had a chance. Yes he failed to score that 1-on-1 against Sheff Utd and recently missed a pen, but if that's the total of his failings over half a season I don't think it's too bad. I think his hard work to fight for the ball and hold it up is underplayed at times too.
Entirely understand a discussion about how good Oscar is , but at same time do also think we sometimes expect a lot as City fans. His record suggests he is certainly the best goal poaching central striker we've had probably since Abel (there's a lad called Smith who might push him) and in the context of our season so far, his goals have been priceless. he won us games at the start of the season which we were
Sorry, hit return too early on previous post! He won us games at the start of the season which we were frankly lucky to win, then went through a slump as whole team did (very little service), and has now come back with 3 in 3, all vital - equaliser v Blackpool, winner v Brum, and what was really the winner v Wigan when we were under the cosh.
Would be a fantastic one if we pull it off, but talking to a fella up there about it at the old firm game the other day, there's bigger fish with deeper wallets after him
Udinese are chasing him hard,if they can agree on a figure agreeable to both parties he'll be going there apparently?
I merely said that I think that you were being harsh on him by saying you didn’t ‘rate him’ and he wasn’t a ‘proper striker’ that’s all. Obviously we both hope he gets 20+ in the same way that we both hope we’ll have so many amazing strikers signed that none of our current ones would be good enough to get in the squad. That’s a given, but considering where we are and have been I think he’s doing a really good job and I like his work ethic Whether he’ll score 20…TWT, but for now I’ll be cheering him (to be fair I assume you will be too, and won’t be a grumbling fan moaning he hasn’t scored, then when he does moaning it wasn’t with a beautifully struck shot…)
