is this comment a joke? morison has been excellent so far. do you have any idea about playing up front? it strikes me as a 'no' given what you have typed...
for what its worth, i pretty much agree with chris acle's post. also, agree with holtys boots - naughton and bennett have been just as impressive as tierney and pilkington on the left. maybe they haven't grabbed as many headlines but their industry and understanding is a pleasure to watch and naughton is a must-buy come january.
hi hoadie, strikes me that northants has decided that he doesn't rate morison and nothing he does will change his mind. some fans do this... they like someone to be dismissive of...
Yeah I know, every club will have them, but not all will air their thoughts, Gillingham have people on Kent Online who do that, but there is no proof they are fans on there.
No it's not a joke sorry to upset you that I'm not a Morison fanboy. His positioning annoys me why does he always feel the need to drift out wide? As for his finishing his hesitant with his shooting he needs to start having a crack. Morison looked good at the start of the season even though his been scoring I don't see the hype. 'Sorry' If I don't buy into the traditional boring British punt it up field targetman forward.
northants, morison is a centre forward. he's been playing a lone striker role. his job involves running the channels!! he has done pretty well at it in his time here. he works very hard, he's good in the air, he's good on the deck, he's scored goals, he's defended set pieces well... i struggle enormously to see what your problem is with him! you are massively wrong when you describe him as a 'punt upfield targetman'... i mean, have you actually seen him play? are you purely judging him by his physique? ok, he isn't world class but what do you want from a centre forward? the fact he can keep holt out of the team should tell you enough about his form and ability. frankly, your comment is baffling
Yes four times this season so far, the pre season friendly against Parma, then the games against Chelsea, Blackburn and Aston Villa. Yes running in the channels when there is no-one in the box to receive the ball, I've seen it happen enough and I'm not buying it leave that to the wide players like Pilkington and Bennett, he needs to keep around the box. I like to have forwards with pace, tricky players who cause defenders problems.
northants, i really don't know what you expect from a £2.5m striker playing in the premier league. were you expecting cristiano ronaldo to waltz past defenders as if they weren't there? the guy is a good, honest pro who is playing some good football and doing a great job for the club! any fool knows that the role of a lone forward also involves running the channels... it is the job of the midfield runners and wide men to take up positions in the box, so as to change the dimensions of the team. if he stayed isolated up front without doing this, we would never score any goals because it would be so easy to defend against. its basic tactical stuff this... also, his header, albeit 1 yard out, was not a gift - anyone who's played the game will tell you that. check out his movement to lose his marker and create space at the far post. its a great cross from holty, begging to be tucked away but the cross was made even better by morison losing his marker
No need for this to develop if into a slagging match. You don't like Morrison, Superman loves him, I think he's pretty good. We've all made good points, but all that really matters is that Lambert thinks he's good enough.
whoa dm, i don't love morison - he's very good value at £2.5m but there are aspects to his game which need sharpening up, but the way northants has described him you'd think he was total pap!! it stinks of a supporter who doesn't understand the role he plays. i've heard it labelled at holt last season. "get back up front holty, why are you out wide???" i'd hear from the stands... total and utter nonsense and lack of knowledge of the game. northants might never rate morison but i'm purely pointing out that his main gripe is actually an error in understanding the role he plays
I've been impressed with Morison, and very surprised by the turn of pace he's got. But I think (when we're playing one up front) there's some merit in what Northampton's saying about him being wide with nobody in the box. But in my view, that's not the fault of Morison, it's just as a result of the 'Hoolahan problem'. When Morison pulls wide, the natural person to get in the box positionally is Hoolahan, but there's no point putting in a cross to him because of his height. It's just an unfortunate occasional consequence of a system that otherwise serves us well.
