I had a chat with the Club today and decided not to sign, preferring the armchair position they don't actually want. So no we haven't signed anyone.
Chelsea look set to sign Enzo Fernandez for £100m+. That should put to bed any stories of them wanting Lavia.
The Argentinian league is deffo a market we need to be looking at. Alcarez is a fantastic ball carrier with an eye for goal. Versatile. Would be a fantastic signing, but not getting my hopes up at all. We’ve seen this movie a few times before.
Another young lad might not seem ideal at all for a January signing in a relegation threatened team, but as shown in the World Cup, Argentinians typically don’t take ****. His mental age is probably 45 at least. And he knows where the net is.
Alcaraz is just what we need - a number 10 who creates chances and has a good eye for goal. But as he's under 21 some will say he's too young.
How is it other clubs have managed to do business already? How have we sat still once again? Cannot wait for the usual "we tried" come end of Jan. Complete dereliction of duty from the board, but at least there's a light show tomorrow
It's the 3rd January FFS. Have a little patience. I agree we need signings sooner rather than later but posting this 3 days after the window opened is ridiculous.
We don't have time to be patient, I'd argue quite strongly that Leeds is a relegation rival. They've managed to get deals sorted out and a player over the line already. Why haven't our board?
If the board are only just identifying targets and making first contact now then I'd agree. Theres no way we'll find that out though so just have to hope they actually realise how far up the ****ter we are and have actually been busy working on targets for a while already.
I do watch a bit of South American football as it's completely nuts at times and so have seen him play a few times. There's no guarantee he'd adapt to the PL but I'm confident he would. He would play in the number 10 position and he's excellent on the ball and has good vision. He's exactly the sort of player we need.
Sounds similar to what Everton did for covid losses to try and come in line with financial regulations.
Slightly concerning quote from the Athletic article on Alcaraz: “Southampton have made signing a new No 8 one of their priorities following the summer departure of Oriol Romeu to Girona. They are also keen on signing a centre-back and forward.” Charly and Romeu are totally different. We would still need a Lavia backup/competition to replace Romeu.
