Knew someone would say that. Can put him in the same category as Caulker and Sahin. Cheap make do moves that didn't work out. Point and case you honour
Want is too strong. I never want is too sell anyone but the team should come first. I think we should have sold him rather than give him that contract.
Question for people It's obvious we need reinforcement in the midfield What type rather than who would you sign? Who would be relegated to the bench? Personally the right side of midfield is a mess, neither Henderson or elliot are the answer. However for all the silky moves, shoulder drops etc thiago is a liability in our side. I'd love us to sign two absolute monsters. Don't have to be technical, but should be able to dominate through speed, strength and determination.
Thiago should never have been bought. Waste of money, never fitted the style of the team, too old and short term thinking We should have either kept Gini or found someone who played in a similar style to him. Who to buy now... **** knows. Without CL Bellingham is a no go even if we had the money. Its looking like Fabinho needs replacing as well. Thought a few of the players might buck up their ideas now the World Cup has been and gone, with it being mid-season there was a feeling that some were saving themselves, trying not to get injured. But I don't know now.
We have by far to many players that are suited to a certain style, but no longer have the players to make that style work. Matip, vvd, fabinho, thiago look fantastic when we are on top and pressuring teams. They can mop up the odd long ball, or hopeful run. But we don't face the odd long ball or hopeful run anymore, our front three can't press, the midfield is played through easily. Opposition know they can not only compete but win the battle. We've two options, either a major tactical rethink on how we want to play to get the vest out of the players we've got. ( klopp seems reluctant to do this) Or buy the players we need to make the system work(fsg are reluctant to do this)
Truthfully.... Thiago can't run. He's trying but he can't. Fabinho is done. Legs have hone. Henderson is up his own hole a bit. He's running everywhere but his channel and discipline is very odd. Was asked yo do a job v leicestercand ge did anything but. Elliott just isn't a cm at all. take your pick. I'd have 3, you might carry one but the two signed would have to do the business big time.
Thiago was integral to our season last year. The year where we were so close to winning everything. Perhaps if we got Touchemeni in the summer to run for him, he would be fine. But we didn't and didn't get a replacement. Hendo's legs going should have been anticipated, but Fabinos legs going and his ability dropping off a cliff couldnt have been anticipated nor expected. Not getting an established midfielder in summer is criminal
I keep hearing that thiago is special, thiago is integral, thiago is our best midfielder. I really just don't see it.
Utter nonsense He missed most of the start of last season through injury. But he is a symptom of the bigger problem. We decided that we needed to 'breakdown' stubborn teams so he came in to do that. Only we've had to change the teams style to fit, but now many of the rest aren't as effective due to the change. He doesn't work in the hectic style of football that happens in the PL.
He would work in Man City’s style of play because they have players who pass and move and pass move at pace, we’re arthritic slugs in that dept.
That Arthur player... If we had two of him we would have a whole player instead of Arthur footballer.
I haven't been able to see the Brentford game yet, but he was our second best player (after Faes) in the Leicester game... He was everywhere... Making gallant tackles one end and leading charges at the front.
Our current midfield lacks Pace….so as an attribute, that’s got to be #1 on the list. We cannot have zero pace in a 3 man midfield. I have t looked at any stats so I might be wrong but I would guess that our pressing and ball winning stats are not good in midfield so there’s #2 height!!! Ffs, do we always have to recruit players under 5 foot ****ing 5!! #3 vision/passing ability. The fact that with the likes of Mane, Bobby amd Salah at their prime, our best assist figures outside of the forwards themselves came from full backs, speaks volumes - so at least one of the midfielders to be able to run to break defensive lines and release the forward line with incisive passing. This was meant to be Keita but when he’s not broken, he’s ****. #4
Jamie Carragher: “Liverpool have bought one midfield player in 4 and a half years and it’s coming back to haunt them now. “It reminds of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal that never won again when it turned too technical. I don’t know if it’s something to do with Pep Lijnders who has a big influence. “Thiago for me is not a problem if the other two are high energy and working. “Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho don't look like Jurgen Klopp players. “It’s not a Jürgen Klopp team and I want to know why. “Liverpool's midfield is running on fumes. 1 midfielder signed in 4.5 years. “Liverpool's transfer people have been lauded as the best in world football - no midfielder signed in the last two windows - this is on them. “If Liverpool think they can get top four without signing a midfielder - they’ve got absolutely no chance. “Liverpool look like they are trying to play the Jurgen Klopp way but without Jurgen Klopp players. “Liverpool are like a normal team pressing but still play with a high line. “Naby Keita isn't for me and isn't good enough. “Konate gets there [for the third goal] but makes a mistake. He is a top young centre-back but young centre-backs will make mistakes. He is the future of Liverpool's defence." #LFC [sky] Not sure what he's saying one midfield player in four and a half years for - this is when Fabinho joined but we've signed Keita, Carvalho, Arthur and Thiago since then. Other than that, I get his point.
its a heap of poo pundit rant built round one fact. klopp signed off on every one of those players and klopp picks them. end off.
Think it's fairly obvious with Klopps style of play gengerpressing that players will only be able to maintain it for a few seasons before blowing out. Therefore he either needs to play a different style or we're going to need a shed load of money to constantly replace our burnt out players.
I dunno about that mate. I don't think they burn out all that quick and i don't think he asks them to do any more than brighton or brentford or anyone else who ran us off the park do. I think the squad depth was never up to it and players were over played. Mane, firmino, salah etc. We had a line up for 3 years Alisson trent matip/gomez vvd Robertson Henderson Fabinho Wijnaludum Salah firmino mane. what were the options? Ox? Keita? Origi? Milner? the squad has actually got bigger over the past 2/2.5 years but the players in the middle have not changed. Trent runs way less now that he did, not arsed what what i saw last night. Matip is fragile. VVD is shot through imo, he's lost the pace that allowed a high line. Robertson came on and ran a bit Henderson is 33? Fabinho's legs are gone. Wijandulm was replaced with thaigo who cannot run Salah's work rate has dropped hugely. Firmino is toast Mane is gone but lets see what we have done Diaz, Jota, nunez. all signed and all hard workers and hard pressers. a lot of money invested there with gakpo to come in next. having frimino and salah as well gives options there. Midfield is an eyesore right now. the main issues still for me is ox and keita are killing the squad depth and those needed to play have got old or cant run. elliott as i've said is not a CM but people take that personally but I am absolutely sure of my ground on it. He doesn't know where to be, how to tackle or get actually close in a press to anyone. we have bloody 9 players for 3 slots and can't scrape up any intensity. the defence has now options. tsimiaks, konate, ramsay added to give the depth but we have not seen much benefit. People have alluded to the press here but its an 11 man job. How is leading the press if not firmino? who goes first and do all follow or only half? Its not nunez and its certainly not salah. So if the front line is walked past then the second line is also all moving slowly towards the ball, not getting anywhere and one pass and its 2 v 2 or whatever on our back line. the term transition is annoying but we are needing to settle into an 11 and work then bring in players in rotation. We can't get the no 9 position locked. We can't get the LW position locked and salah is not running as much as RW. Straight away that would help. then the middle is pathetically poor at actually being close to the men and hitting them as the ball arrives. there's no real pressure but all 3 run up and get bypassed. Its there game after game. this high line bullshit that people keep ****ing on about (pundits) is only an issue when someone can stand there under no pressure and ping a pass where they like.
