Portsmouth are such a shambles of a club. They flew too close to the sun when 'arry was in charge and been paying for it ever since. Their support aren't a bad lot (despite the faux rivalry) - I lived down there 20 years ago and went to Fratton a few times. Still funny though
Didn't realise it's been 11 years since they were even in The Championship. A cautionary tale to many clubs and their fans who demand signings and big contracts
aye they paid a very big price for that fa cup win spending all that money came back to bite there arse
Couple of dodgy owners and some terrible managerial appointments - just goes to show that wasting money is the easiest thing in the world to do
Difficult job the Pompey managers role. The fans expectations are way above what is actually attainable...They play in a run down stadium with very limited room for expansion and thus have a ceiling on income generation. With no more money coming in, what can they do? I really don't see it getting any better soon for them, unless they get an Oil rich sugar daddy to bank role them
Fratton Park isn't run down, it's an absolute disgrace. Thei scummy supporters suit the scruffy ground and scruffy town perfectly. They're down and out and will never recover. I couldn't be more pleased to see them fester in their self created little time warp.
Get off the fence mate tell us how you really feel enjoying their struggle too after the way they went on in the play off semis down there
Still a bit jealous of them though for having that brief success. How long would you be willing to have the club in league 1 if it meant you could taste winning a proper trophy?
I remember arguing with someone over the road about the pe teachers. Can't remember his name but he's one of the weird Di Canio fanatics who couldn't move on. Anyway, he was insistent that these two were the best thing since sliced bread, that Portsmouth would be promoted before us and that the Cowley's would be managing in the Premier League before too long. I had a quick look on there when the news broke, but no Cowley fans can be found.
At the Checkatrade final I thought they were the worst set of fans I've ever come across. Loads of out-for-day coke heads having a go at families, young lads, lasses...easy targets. Bunch of coked up cowards. Total scum. Made the play off semi final win all the more sweeter. The result of years of in-breeding.....
Was he the one that told us exactly what the problem was and the loony Sunderland supporters ignored him and wanted him out, worked well didn’t it mate.
The Cowleys still have a good overall record in my opinion. Portsmouth arent a club that you can see competing at the top end of league 1 anymore. Too many better structured clubs in that league now to just keep trying to play the big club card. Huddersfield was an odd one for them, not sure what went on there. I dont think they are quick fix managers, which seems to be the pompey model. They will though take a club and build something over time, given the chance. Just my thoughts anyway, they have plenty of things going for them and being sacked by Pompey wouldnt put me off.
Anyone can walk into an organisation and throw **** telling you what the problems are. He didn't know how to solve the problems, manage his squad or get results.
Maybe they wouldn’t listen to him because they ( the piss heads ) knew they had the power and the dozy fans would do bugger all, Well they got their wish, 1season in the Championship and 4 in League one, well done
If the team ignore the manager then he isn't a very good manager. The fans didn't have anything to do with his sacking, the board did - based on poor performances. We had better performances under each of the next 3 managers. If the players weren't listening, how exactly do you think we were going to do well under Di Canio?
