Yeah. Carragher has just described liverpools as an ageing squad coming towards an end

Most of those games have been against bottom half opposition but he must be doing something right. He also got the dog-botherers playing well.

We need to sign Brentford’s scouting team. They came up a year later and seem to be breezing it.

Tony not playing and didn’t affect them one bit. A real success story

How the hell are they doing it? We can’t say that we have less resources than them?

They have just over 17000 in their ground tonight for one of the biggest games of their season.

Brentford only 27% possession yet still managed 10 shots 7 of which were on target. Like everyone has pointed out, how do they do it when they continually sell their best players.

They were three or four seasons knocking in door of promotion. Built brand new ground in that time too

Brentford are bottom of the spending league and just behind Forest in squad valuation league, so yes coaching and tactics means they are outperforming every prem team. Maybe Marsch should learn how to chew gum like Franks

I like Carlos - he did a great job at the udders… I said at the time he took the job, though that the wba and boro jobs were the two easiest gigs in football at this moment in time. Both struggling at the bottom, but if you watched them play you’d have no idea how. Neither side could score but were pretty much top of the xg league.

Both on a roll now and both will make play offs. Burnley, blunts… and one of boro or wba for promotion.

Re Brentford… the scouting team are great but you have to give a huge amount of credit to Frank. They were (along with us) the best footballing side in the champ for several years before they got promoted. Didn’t see yesterday’s game, but they seem to manage to be really well organised without ever looking anything special on the ball whenever I have seen them. They’re able to get those wide players in space,.. find them without having to do anything flash and they put decent balls in the box. Really simple looking football - though it obviously isn’t or everyone would do it - and it works because they seem to create decent chances every game. Sign of a side where everyone understands, and can do, their job.

Fast expansive football it could be described as or great counter attacking. But the system works not because they park the bus, but because Franks uses a low block and pressing game. His players don’t allow you to settle but the opposition can play tippy tappy in the final third without breaking through the ranks, they try and make you have a long range pot shot. Always remember Simeone saying he is a Bielsa disciple but he does it his way, he starts with his low block and builds rather than Bielsa’s high octane attack which can leave big holes at the back if you lose the ball. So Franks sacrifices possession but creates chances so as long as you take a good % of chances….

Don’t disagree Doc. Their league position is no fluke. Their possession stats and pass% rates aren’t pretty but there’s a few telling details. For example, we’ve had more shots than them this year… but they’ve had way more on target and created way more ‘big chances’. Is that better strikers? Likely, but mainly because the chances they get are better.

Bottom line they don’t create that many chances relatively… but what they do create is of good quality. As you say efficient on the break and in getting guys forward to support those breaks. Some big lumps for set pieces too. So if you look at stats it looks like they might have nicked a game and in some respects they have… but then you see that despite fewer shots than the opposition their xg is higher.

I wonder how much of a say Frank has on the transfer dealings at Brentford. Is this where they’ve continued to do well and we failed. Has Frank just got on with the job and utilised whoever was brought in
