I agree he doesn't look great, but why compare to Armstrong? Very simplistic reasoning. I know nothing about Akpom admittedly, but he might be a completely different type of player to Armstrong, one who Jones or the scouts thinks would suit our playing style (whatever it is these days).
“He just needs a run of six games” It could be the tagline for our transfer policy. I don’t really get why we let 2 senior CB’s go and hired 2 rookies, but that’s where we are I guess. If it’s a choice between letting Che go or missing out on a decent striker I say we move Che on to make funds for a goal scoring forward.
That's just the half of it. We decided to play those two rookie CBs play in front of a rookie goalkeeper, and behind a rookie DM.
Well, Carillo came from La Liga, so let's not buy from there again. Shane Long came from the Premier League, Osvaldo from Serie A.
This vagueness going into the most important transfer window in years isn’t exactly filling me with confidence. We need a distinct and clear plan knowing the gaps in our squad and positions of weakness.
Not sure I agree about it being arrogant. Just foolhardy. Signing young quality players to sell on at profit, is definitely the way to go. But there is a limit on how many you can realistically buy and put into the first team straight away. This has been a massive learning curve for SR, and we can only hope that they hold themselves accountable, and are determined to clean up the mess they have made.
Yeah, none of those 'plans' Jones has mentioned, actually mean anything. "Could be 1, 2 ,3 or 10." Please tell me he didn't say that.
Presumably he's being deliberately vague? That was my first thought anyway, it's not like we won't have already been working on signings.
The issue for me hasn’t been the young players, it’s the older ones who have all been poor. ABK and Lavia have probably been our best players this year
My issue is that I don’t really want NJ dictating anything regarding transfer policy, as I don’t think he’ll be around long.
This is the crux of it. The last few seasons the club has really banged on about “the Southampton way”. Which is high pressure, possession football. NJ appears to be the complete opposite of this. It’s just such a strange appointment.
CB is the one of the only areas where we don’t need to improve. He just needs to pick the correct players and get more protection from the midfield.
