My view hasn't changed from what I said on here in the summer: In an ideal world, I want us to keep Che (as a second striker) and sign a decent first choice striker If we don't sign a decent first choice striker, I'm convinced we're getting relegated regardless of whether Che is here or not If an extra £20m is the difference between us getting that decent striker or not, I would sell Che Now I know some people will say "we don't need the extra £20m - the fact that we bid for Gakpo shows that the money is there". Fine - but at the end of the day, we didn't sign such a player. So it doesn't matter what money might be available, if we don't duly spend it. Maybe an extra £20m might have changed that? There is also the fact that it has become increasingly clear that there are other areas of the team which could also do with being improved. So whilst the money might be there to make a single £30m(ish) signing, we are not Newcastle. As I recall, they spent about £100m last January to buy their way to safety. Ultimately, I don't know how useful it would be to us to have an extra £20m. But I do know that we need someone who can put the ball in the net, and I do know that we didn't sign such a player last summer. So like I say, if having that extra money would make a difference, then I would be open to selling Che. However if we can do it whilst keeping hold of Che, then all the better. (There are various players in our squad who I would be selling ahead of Che btw. For example, Djenepo and Adam Armstrong. But they wouldn't fetch as much as Che, and Che is the one being linked away.)
I sort of agree, but then equally if we sell che and replace with someone new, then that person gets injured…. I don’t know how we can survive as a club with only one good player in each position. It was suicidal to have only one DM. It feels suicidal to have only one striker. Plus I do really like che. I know he is limited but he has fantastic hold up play and never stops running
There’s also the fact that Che knows and is a proven PL player for us. Even a new big signing that on paper is superior isn’t guaranteed to work out. Really don’t think selling Che is an option right now. We definitely need an addition to Che not a replacement. We already need a ST, CDM and AM this window. Sell Che and we need ST x2, CDM and AM.
I say we get rid if an offer comes in. He’s not good enough and is doing the square root of **** all. AArmstrong and Che are not good enough for the PL, the only reason to keep them is if we’re resigned to relegation.
Proven to not score goals in the premier league. You can’t keep a player on the books just in case the new signing isn’t any good. Worse case scenario is he doesn’t score, which leaves us in the same scenario with Che.
Except Che does score goals for us. Yes of course he misses a lot of chances, a lot of ‘easy’ chances too but he still scores goals for us which nobody else seems capable of. His all round play up front is also far superior to anyone else we have and okay he’s never going to be the greatest PL player, but we aren’t the greatest PL team. He is PL quality and plenty good enough to be one of the strikers in a lower half PL team. The problem isn’t Che, it’s that we have literally nobody else.
If we can't afford to have 2 decent strikers at the club, then we're ****ed. The minimum we need is a proper striker plus Che, or two proper strikers if Che goes. And by proper, I mean already able to play football at a high level. Currently, we've got nearly 1 in Che plus AArmstrong who must be great in the dressing room or something because all he does is make up numbers. If we need to sell Che to bring in a striker then we might as well start planning for the Championship.
£11m for a striker who has played just 220 minutes and scored no PL goals… He clearly has time to prove his worth but unfortunately so far it’s been a colossal waste of money for a club in our situation
That's fine, it doesn't need to be super busy. 2 or 3 players incoming (I include loans) will be enough if they are the right players.
Disappointing to see he’s not happy with CB’s, seeing as we recently bought ABK and DCC. I would have thought CDM would be his top priority, unless he plays without one.
ABK is 20 years old. He should be an understudy at best. How many other 20 year old starting CBs are there in the Prem? Salisu is a big liability. Dependable for 80% per cent of the game, but always has one or two big ****-ups in him. DCC looks like he could come good. Should be getting more game time. Lyanco has the quality of Jack Stephens, and the mentality of Tyson Fury. I know people hate Bednarek, but he has shown at times to be dependable. He is a leader too, which we lack.
