    I didnt notice
It's a wonder how we had any attacks if we played it among the back four or lumped it forward and almost every time lost possession
Didn't we ever pass the ball forward from player to player?
Are you sure you arent making it up?

Not sure I agree as I was specifically watching for what happened when we went long, as so many make this point. We almost always won it on the first ball, or if not, won it back on the second ball, as we were able to outnumber them in midfield.

The debate is getting rather boring now, but just to say, this is simply not true.
It's crystal clear that Rosenior has had something of an obsession about us playing it around at the back / playing it out from the back. And way more so than Shota or McCann. This led directly to stupid costly mistakes with the players trying to do as instructed, and Rosenior openly saying they'll make mistakes and I'll take responsibility.
It was also crystal clear that Rosenior changed his messaging for the Birmingham game, with the players mixing it up much more sensibly & effectively.

You were watching a different game to me then. The long balls which came off (not every time) were the diagonals, which took advantage of the pace out wide and also the additional time we had due to the piss poor pressing from the opposition.

Nice bit of changing the point of attack. I didn't say they didn't pass it forward, I said they frequently knocked it around between themselves for a while, and the reason I said that was because you said "Maybe once Ingram played it to a defender and then it went back to Ingram. All the other times they played it forward quickly or played it further upfield." It clearly wasn't "all the other times". But I suspect you won't be persuaded so I'll let you alone to construct your own narrative.

You have to play through the defence to draw the press, otherwise it doesn't work. This means passing from centre half to centre half to midfield, back to defence until the opposition moves. If they don't, you have to try and force your way through which we can't do very well.

And it's exactly what we did against Birmingham, not every time (which was my gripe) but we did it a lot and it worked. The "forward" brigade will hate it, but they'll have to suck it up.

Birmingham showed that Rosenior, or the players, realise that playing around at the back isnt a good idea. Hopefully the ball will continue to be moved forward faster away from the danger area of our own penalty area.

We're not going to change the way we play, we'll still be playing it out from the back, the players will just develop a better understanding of when to play it out to a defender and when to go long.

Liam Rosenoir is not some messiah who has reinvented the wheel, playing about at the back has been going on for a few years now, plenty of the top clubs use it and on some occasions cock it up and end up conceding a goal. Almost every week on match of the day you will see an example of it going wrong, same with the EFL highlights show, fairly sure there were some at the world cup too.

I have never once said we shouldn't play it out from the back
I have been saying that we shouldn't play it around at the back from goalkeeper to defender and back to goalkeeper and risk losing possession and/or a goal
It's quite obvious some on here are incapable of comprehension

Let's do it this way then.

How do you free up space in the midfield and trigger a press *without* passing it around the back and retaining possession?

the only way was the 'tiki taka' that needed ridiculous players for and teams are much more defensively structured now

now you have to pass between defenders
