Apparently, a six figure sum was involved: Argyle tried to sign him in the summer but couldn't agree a price then.

It's a small world again: knows both Scott Wooton (now playing for Wellington Phoenix) and Rory Fallon (through New Zealand international squad).

It's all looking very rosy isn't it. I agree with the philosophy of get your business done and move on soonest.

Our next two league games are both away....against strong home sides.......

    7th Jan.....Bolton...7W...3D...2L.

    &

    14th Jan.....Ipswich...7W...4D...1L.

....and squeezed in between these two away game....is another away game at Bristol R on Tuesday Jan 10th in the EFL Trophy.

Two important games...Bolton in a play-off spot.....and of course Ipswich who want our top league spot.

The Bristol R game is a chance for us to win some silverware....and Schumacher will not just play the peripheral players to protect all his first choice players for the important Ipswich game.

We have another incoming who is a certain Mr Earley from Norwich. Another promising signing it seems.

Now confirmed....20yr old left back from Norwich....spent the first half of the season at high flying Div 2 club Stevenage and played 27 times for them this season.....never played for Norwich's first team.

So Earley and Waine both promising young players have joined us for fees and have strengthen our squad as our players and not loanees....that is a step forward.

Only January 2nd and we have already brought in two full time players.....things are changing at PAFC.

Concern regarding Morgan Whittaker staying at Argyle until the end of season.....talk at Swansea about possibility of him returning to them.

Swansea have a possible five players ahead of Whittaker in the pecking order for his position....in fact they admit it is their strongest position in the team.

But there are other clubs interested in buying him....amongst them our rivals Ipswich....so financially there is a case for recalling him and selling him on to another club.

Whittaker is worth more than we could afford to spend to make him an Argyle player full time.....and I cannot see PAFC throwing debt into the equation just to hold on to him.

Loan deals are not always as watertight as they seem at the time.....we will hear soon what the answer will be.

Whittaker has stated that he is keen to stay at Argyle where he is finding scoring and providing assists for others to score a success at present.....the MK match is a good example....one goal and two assists.

All speculation until the ink's dry.

It seems he's under contract at Swansea until the end of the 2024/25 so he has no bargaining power. If his contract was up at the end of this season, he could just run the clock down and refuse to sign for Ipswich if he felt strongly that he'd rather play for Argyle than potentially just warm the Ipswich bench. He can't do that until 2025.

I fully support the way the club is run financially. However, he's a known quantity and clearly the real thing with the ability to play in the Championship. Without tempting fate, if it was any other club in this position, you'd say they were odds on to be promoted. He wants to stay. Is this a case where the boat needs to be pushed out?

I've just had a panicky look around the internet because somebody told me Whittaker is in fact going. I've looked on the club websites for Argyle, Swansea and Ipswich and there's nothing to report, neither is there anything new on the Plymouth Herald site or its Ipswich or Swansea equivalents.

What I did see though is that there's another link to the signing of Ben Waine: Schumacher played with David Ball at Fleetwood and David Ball is now at Wellington Phoenix.

Turns out that there is smoke without fire: Swansea have recalled Whittaker to “play a part in their Championship season”. Argyle say they did everything they could to keep him, including paying more under the loan or buying him permanently.

The odd thing about the Swansea manager’s earlier statement was that the decision wasn’t his but the owners’.based on monetary value to the club (or possibly themselves). Monetary value isn’t necessarily in conflict with football success of course: the day may come when someone offers multi-millions for Michael Cooper that could be used to buy several quality players. But they way he said it made it sound rather more cynical and something the manager didn’t altogether approve of.

Shame about Whittaker because he has improved to the player he is currently under Schumacher. He obviously didn't want to go either which is sort of good to hear even if it does us no good. We will however survive and move on.

One further comment on this. I just had a little look at the Ipswich board as they are being mentioned in relation to him although there is no current evidence he will end up there. There is a post by one of theirs about Whittaker. However it says "good news" and goes on to say he has been recalled and him being our top scorer and just before we play them. He hopes it will derail our season basically. If you have to wish ill will to other clubs just because you are scared ****less they are too good for you then you must be a complete and utter ****er. It's almost as bad as "oh good their player broke his leg". I hope Ipswich, thanks to that one prat, fall on their arse and slip away quietly.

The Whittaker news is disappointing.....too much success here unfortunately.....we really need Finn Azaz back....but it will take him time to get up to speed.

Lets not forget that Whittaker has to agree to go to whoever offers.

Not sure if I mentioned it here but I watched “All The Goals Of 2022” on Argyle TV. Jordan Garrick was in evidence in the 2021-22 part of that. Big lad, pace to burn, good played 42.games for us, some at wing back if I remember, scoring 4 times.

I wondered where he is now. Still a Swansea player but on loan to Lincoln is the answer, where he’s played in only 11 of their games and hasn’t scored.

We sign players that fit our style and play them to their strengths, which perhaps we identify when others don’t They may do well here because they’re well recruited and managed but ir doesn’t necessarily transfer back to their home clubs. Morgan Whittaker has been nothing less than brilliant for us but you can see why he doesn’t want to go back. He wants to play as a 10 and he’s good at it. You can see another club trying to shoehorn him in out wide or as a number 9 and then wondering why it doesn’t work for the player or the team.
