A Wednesday fan has posted this on WFC Forums - I think it deserves a wider audience Ladies and Gents, Firstly i apologise that this may not be posted in the correct section. However i feel it needs the largest audience possible. Basically I am attempting to lobby the government to put pressure on the Premier League to alter it's current governance. Currently the Premier League's decision making panel consists of 20 shareholders each with one vote and each representing a Premier League (PL) club. Given the importance of the Premier League in English football and its influence on the Football League (FL) i would like to see the government engage with the PL with a view to the inclusion of a Football League representative with the capability of voting on decision (i.e. having one vote and holding a veto). I think the Football League has been neglected for too long by the Premier League and i for one would like to see the PL recognise the importance of the FL to it's own future prosperity by endorsing this change. Please sign the petition below if you agree with my sentiments and if possible get others to sign also. Given the changes brought about to the academy systems in England i feel this change is required to help safeguard the future of the FL. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/19895 (Mods can this be pinned??) Please don't just sign this petition, post it on twitter, post in on facebook, post it everywhere. I am going forum by forum to appeal to people to sign (you are the second forum after owlstalk i have appealed to). It only takes two seconds to sign and post on, but this could affect the future of the FL. Cheers, Phil Haigh
Although I agree with the sentiments of the above, I do wonder if the Department will actually have any influence over the Premier League. To my mind they are a self serving body who would not give the FL a veto over what they want to do. Their only concern is to feather their nest further in the short term, not considering what the long term effects might be on the much bigger picture of towns up and down the country and the clubs that the residents support.
Two quite cynical comments above! Id support this in fact id support legislation compelling the pl to submit to a one club one vote system combined with the league. I would accept england being banned internationly because of gov intervention in england matters The new youth ruled are the final straw- i will not spend a penny that will help the epl i will poor scorn on it at every opportunity
My cynicism is due to the fact that of all the e-petitions so far, the only one to have succeeded called for an investigation to see whether people have gotten away with murder, manslaughter or death through negligence, something that was already going to happen. The problem is that 100,000 signatures doesn't seem like a lot to the bigger parties. What really frightens politicians is the potential loss of seats. Without wishing this to come across as an anti-Tory/Labour/Lib Dem post, I'd be interested to know how many constituencies nationwide could potentially swing to another party if the supporters of Football League clubs were prepered to vote en masse. In Hertfordshire alone, Watford, Stevenage and probably St Albans could swing from the largest party to the second largest (regardless of who won the previous election) if all Watford and Boro fans were to hypothetically switch their votes based on which candidate or party would do the most for their clubs. Replicate that nationwide, and you are easily looking at 100-odd constituencies. Governments are regularly formed with smaller majorities, toppled with smaller rebellions.
One thing is certain if you dont try , you dont get ,petition signed in hope more than anything else.
The premier league will be on its own soon and separate from the FA. So they are asking for the premiership teams to play in their cup. The premiership will demand that their second teams play in the football league and the teams at the bottom will be pushed out to help the big teams as the big teams will be allowed straight in. What happened to the idea of premiership 2.
Ak, as it's the FA Premier League there might be all sorts of mess with that and for the PL to be come separate from the FA the clubs would have to become unaffiliated from the FA and would therefore become ineligible to take part in the FA Cup or even the FL which is a competition sanctioned by the FA, even though it has it's own governing body. If either are in the PL if your scenario ever happened, it might make things difficult for Swansea or Cardiff as they are affiliated to the FAW but are allowed to take part in the PL/FL due to a cross-border agreement. If this were to happen, they might end up having to play in the WPL. The FA could retaliate by saying that if it happens, any English players playing for those clubs are no longer eligible to play for England, but they'd need a spine to do that.
I think that is what I meant. The FA would lose some the very big clubs as they would go and make their own league and invite Celtic and Rangers to join. The FA would then have their cup and control of the England team and would have to ask nicely for football players from the premiership. The football league would still do what they do.
I think there are a few here who'd agree that the FA shouldn't even bother with picking EPL players for England! They certainly haven't done the country proud in the past. And there aren't too many English players in the EPL anyway
It would seem that FIFA's meddling may be behind the EPL push for this: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...to-field-locally-trained-players-6257944.html Not that it exhonerates their I'm-alright-Jack-bugger-the-rest-of-you attitude towards their fellow clubs.
This could be good for the little clubs. How you define local players is important, is it distance or time with the club?
