There's a lot of good young talent there but would probably need a few older heads too.

Tella is tearing it up at Burnley btw.

I'd much rather we stick with talented youth than buy a load of Championship journeymen personally.

I just really don’t think the championship would be as good or easy as people make out. It’s a ridiculously tough, gruelling league and we were lucky the first time around.

We will find out just how much money our new owner actually has, very quickly. Could easily end up in a negative debt spiral again to be honest

Cheer up troops. I reckon we'll improve and avoid relegation.

Must go, a bloke in a white coat has just rung the doorbell I'll get on my uni-cycle and answer it. Keep the faith.

Wait wait wait, you found the Koeman seasons boring?

That’s a hell of a bar you have set for a Saints fan.

Yes mate, exactly this. There are absolutely more important things in life, I love Saints but I will support them wherever they are and how ever good or bad they are. I will just enjoy the good times more

I get that this is 3 losses since NJ came in and not much improvement but I can also see that 1 win and results going out way and we are out of the bottom 3. There is so much dross at the bottom of the league that a few good signings and we can easily pull clear. I think apart from the striker situation and to a lesser extent(at the time anyway) the DM position, most of us thought we had a decent window. Confidence is low but it must be low at most of the other teams from Leicester down.

I don't see a problem attracting players to be honest, they can't all play for the top 10 clubs and moving on if we go down is easy enough if they are good enough, if they are not good enough, we may well go down and they won't get a move elsewhere. I still believe we can do it, who cares that we are bottom, I love a great escape!

What a story, bottom heading into the new year, only to turn it around and stay up, what a story!

    Whatever will be will be!

Happy New Year to you all, it's gonna be a great one!

I wonder what the mood and confidence is like with the players and coaches? If it’s anything like it is with the fans, we won’t get over 20 points this season.

I was amazed by the appointment of Jones, but sacking him after effectively two league games (I’m ignoring Liverpool as he’d only been here a few days) would seem odd. It would also make SR look completely clueless (perhaps they are!), so I can’t see him sacked for a while yet.

What I find massively annoying is that Jones hasn’t come in a week or two ago and had no time to change things. He’s had the whole World Cup break. What have they been doing?

I’m not confident at all that we can survive, BUT it only takes a few wins to turn it around. Looking ahead, our last six games are Bournemouth, Newcastle, Forest, Fulham, Brighton and Liverpool.

Four wins there doubles our current points tally. The problem is actually winning! A point per game from now would give us 33, that won’t be enough.

Just watched MOTD. Bournemouths goals conceded looked very similar to Saints. Corner routine the same, weak defending for easy header. Not wonder goals, just weak defending. How do teams leave the biggest player free to dolly the ball in. It’s not like he was hiding. I’m by nature a pessimist but even I don’t think we are doomed yet. Half a season, other teams just as bad, no big points gap. Happy New Year…..maybe.

The worrying thing is 1 point per game is a big improvement in our performance. Currently this season we’re returning 0.7

I sort of felt sorry for Bmouth. O'Neill's first few games as caretaker were so good that they were almost forced to give him the job. But the honeymoon period had already started to fade by the time that he did get it. And whilst I haven't researched the stats, I would suggest that retaining a caretaker manager on a permanent basis ultimately fails more often than it succeeds.

From the outside looking in, I don't think many people are looking at O'Neill with any fear or worry (regarding his ability to save them). It's just a shame that the same applies when those people look at us too!

I think because of the summer where Poch and half the team left I just was very “meh” about the whole thing. Yes we did better under Koeman than Poch but, for me anyway, it’s all been tinted with a “what’s the point” as any decent player will leave and we won’t win anything. I’ve said it before but I think I’m just a glory hunter who picked the wrong team.

Football has obviously changed hugely in the PL era and now only a handful of teams (yes Leicester) can realistically expect to win anything at the top level. To me that’s just kind of ruined the enjoyment of the sport so I’m very “whatever” about the whole thing

Has to be said that Marco Silva has done an excellent job at Fulham and there's no way they'll go down this year imo.

Seem to recall Silva getting a bit of stick on here previously when we were linked but he seems to have bounced back well from his Everton disappointment. Can see him getting another shot at a bigger club in the not too distant future.

I know it won’t help our current situation but what has happened to our much respected academy. We don’t really seem to develop any futures stars any more!!!!!

They're all bubbling away under the surface.

The crop about to come through is a damn exciting one. Whether they'll get a chance under the current regime is another matter entirely.

Your’re talking like we are already down. We aren’t cast adrift yet and still have many points to play for. The WC has skewered how it feels, but because of that we still have more games than we normally would have in Jan. we can still do it

Could you tell i'd been drinking last night?...<laugh>

But seriously it's not really a fair comparison as we know what that promotion team achieved and they were all seasoned players. whereas the young lads have yet to form any reputation in the game but that doesn't make them bad players, just inexperienced ones.
I'm not saying that that would be the team that would start next season if we were relegated but one that might evolve in time.
All of them are very highly rated with big potential but obviously have a bit to learn yet. That's why I said in my follow up post that they would need some older heads around them for balance, but Nathan Tella is an example of someone who is benefitting from playing and learning at a lower level as Adam, Morgan, Targett and Reed have too.

I do care, but I cant remember the last time I jumped up celebrating a goal or was that bothered about a win/loss. I’ll still watch every game but I think it’s more just habit following the team than anything else.

I mainly use football to take the piss out of mates who care way more than I do, haven’t been able to do that for awhile either

That’s sad. I know what you mean about that summer though, something changed for all of us.
