Windows open. So we didn’t have anything lined up. Typical saints. Can’t wait until deadline day closes and we are told “we did everything we could but unfortunately January is a tough window”
Liverpool have shown how easy it is to do deals before the window actually opens, although as a big club fighting for trophies it is easier for them to get deals done quickly. We’ve known since the summer where our weaknesses are, and Jones said himself he can see what we need, so there’s no excuses for the board not to make signings quickly.
I guess the big thing may not be us. If a player is available (Moffi as an example) we surely wouldn’t be the only interested party. Lorient might want to stall and wait to see how much cash they can get, the player might want to stall and wit to see how much cash they can get and whether a more interesting offer comes along. We might’ve been doing work the last few weeks but it’s not just about us doing that. The selling club and player can dig their heels in. If we rush through a few signings who nobody else wants then that also is a terrible move
It's not just Liverpool though. Wolves and Forest have made their first signings already too. In the latter's case, he might well be making his debut against us: Nottingham Forest FC - Reds sign Gustavo Scarpa
Oh yeah I don’t disagree, just that even if they are being proactive and offering contracts/money now, other teams and players would be stupid to make a decision without sounding out all options
Scarpa was a Bosman type deal done in the summer I believe but his contract didn’t expire in Brazil until December
Leeds United are interested in Southamptonstriker Che Adams and the 26-year-old Scotland forward would consider a move to Elland Road. (Give Me Sport)
Southampton's interest in Lorient and Nigeria forward Terem Moffi, 23, could help Leeds in their pursuit of Adams. (Leeds Live)
Probably a 19 year old prospect on loan from the Swiss second division and the recalling of Tella which will be 'like a new signing'.
I refuse to believe we’re that dumb. But given that we were happy to sell Che in the summer…no, no, they must have learnt their lesson. Che is limited as a goal scorer but is still by far and away our best striker in goal scoring and all round play. He's even been one of our better players this season despite his frequent misses of ‘easy’ chances. At least with Che he’s guaranteed to get you around 8 goals which isn’t bad for a team our level so long as you have goal contributions from other strikers and players (which we don’t). Selling him this window would be astronomically stupid. Like we don’t already have enough to do.
I agree, we shouldn’t sell Che, he needs support up front though……don’t know who we will get. Got a feeling Moffi won’t happen, he played again last night. Libby is probably correct in saying we will sign an unknown 19 year old from the Bulgarian 3rd division for the future.
