Taylor is very card happy this game, so I’m still concerned we may go down to 10. Hopefully Arteta is reminding them to not make any silly challenges.
And now Saka’s booked for a tangle of legs when he didn’t make a challenge . I’m convinced he wants to send one of our players off here.
Actually just saw that Gabriel was playing two men onside. Frustrating when they’d barely threatened up until that point. Now the remaining 25 minutes are going to be extremely nervous.
Elneny for Partey is ALWAYS a poor sub. He just leaves the midfield wide open whilst he runs around chasing every ball.
Mitoma scores a 3rd and he is (thankfully) offside. Jesus. Why are we so rattled? Brighton absolutely destroying us since Saliba gifted them that 2nd goal.
FT. 2-4. Great away win, an extremely disjointed and nervous final 25 minutes which I don’t think Arteta will be happy with, but a lot of very positive performances overall, and some excellent attacking displays. Brighton away has not been a happy hunting ground for us and they are a very tricky team to play against, so getting any sort of win there is a big plus. Sometimes I forget how young this team is, and they’re still learning, but hopefully we won’t be having too many more heart palpitations during matches (one can wish…). Going into the New Year with Arsenal top of the league - happy days
Can't complain - Brightons a tough place to go. Odegaard is turning into some player you know. 7 pts clearrr at the top. What a crazy Season it has been.
That's a MASSIVE "IF"... considering we have Newcastle, Spuds, Manure coming up. The team has surpassed all expectations I had to date and for some reason I still remain grounded until it's mathematcally impossible
I’m the same. Unfortunately, Arsenal have given me PTSD from previous years for me to get overly excited for where we are right now. Though I am obviously delighted with our progress. The games will come thick and fast in the new year, and we need to see how we handle the workload. It is imperative we make a couple of signings in January. Will be a wasted opportunity if we don’t.
Just to cheer you all up, Sky have been pushing the fact that every team that had 40+ points on New Years day have gone on to win the league. Now would be a good time to point out that the rest of them had played 4 games more at this point. I really enjoy the football you play and hope you win the thing (if we can't ). Happy New year all
Sorry, just proved Sky talk ****e whilst proving a Spud wrong on another subject 1st of Jan 1996 Premier League Live Table, Season 1995/96 https://www.premierleague.com › matchweek › table Position Club Pl GD Pts 1 Newcastle 22 +25 51 2 Man Utd 23 +14 42 3 Spurs 23 +10 41 Never take Sky's word as fact when football is involved EDIT.............Sky were right, they were going on 16 games not the date. Carry on lads and lasses
Sure but even if we do lose a few games in Jan/Feb I think we've shown enough that this team will mount a proper challenge. Gonna be harder without Jesus but at least Nketiah is scoring even if he doesn't offer the same level of skill/work rate. The fact Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli are all scoring goals gives me hope we can actually win it.
I get all what your saying, but it's hard to forget the mental fragilities our team has had over the past 10 years. I admire everything Arteta, the players and the club are doing right now, but IF we go on a **** run of say a L..D..L can we bounce back from that. Would love to see us bring in some more experience too, the strength of depth worries me a little. Whatever happens for the remainder of this season, I'm proud of this current team! Happy New Year everyone!
Yeah, if I am going to be slightly negative, our squad depth does worry me. You saw the difference when we took off White, Zinchenko & Partey, and brought on Tomiyasu, Tierney and Elneny. To be fair, Tierney and Tomiyasu are usually very solid, and both of them didn't provide the sturdiness/resilience I expected them to, so maybe they struggled to get up to the speed of the game. But Elneny was just running around, trying to press everyone, and left a huge gaping hole in midfield which Brighton took advantage of. It was very uncoordinated. The drop off in quality between him and Partey is vast. It's clear Lokonga isn't in Arteta's plans, so we need to upgrade this position and find someone who can do a sufficient job if Partey is unavailable.
