In short yes I think he is better than Simms and would give us multiple options. I don't think he could lead the line by himself though.
Problem is, with the constant and suffocating saturation of social media there has to be transfer rumours 24/7 and you don't know who to believe
I think it was BSA who said that every signing you make should improve your 1st team, This notion of squad players is what gets you relegated
It's a solid theory. I'm not saying you can always stick to it and every now and then you need filler, but loans and frees for filler and spending your money on improving your weakest first team position seems like the most sensible approach (once you have solid depth at least). I'd see Broadhead as a contributer at best and being 24, his prime growth years are behind him. What you see now is probably 90% of the finished product. There's no potential for him to be our number 1 striker or play as cover for Stewart. He's not worth a fee in my eyes, I'd have him on loan or on a free though.
I was surprised Broadhead didn’t feature last night. Maybe there’s something in the story about him returning to Everton to be sold in January? Seems strange that his mam tweeted the article.
2 managers at Wigan have felt the same, not one. How do Wigan ask him to play which doesn't suit him?
Wigan dont play through the phases, they lump the ball up to him and that isnt his game. He is at his best when a team plays short quick passes, which we do. Im not saying he would be amazing for us but his movement is class and he would be an asset to us for sure
You put it better than me mate. Also it shows both those managers simply didn't know how to get the best out of him.
Hell on when Amad and Simms are recalled, Pritch and Rossco rock up at Stoke and Yates and Broadhead arrive at the AoL via the parents door with Wee Philie getting the exclusive.
I don't disagree that he'd be good for squad depth to be honest, I just don't think we're in the business of paying for squad depth (without a very high ceiling). I don't ever see him being a starter for us and we'd be paying for a lad who is 25 before the end of the season and has never achieved anything more than a good half a season at League One.
Bang on, he wasn’t in the game up here a couple of months back. The one time he received the ball to feet in the first half, he turned our defender with ease (O’Nien iirc) and Wigan had a decent counter. That might’ve been the build up to their goal, can’t quite remember.
I'm not saying Broadhead should be The Signing that we go for above anyone else but I rated him pretty highly before and I'd be happy to have him back. I think he'd slot right in with the likes of Amad, Roberts etc. If he's not getting a game for Wigan it probably means they don't know what they're doing.
To be fair it was fairly even until at some point in the second half we decided to play like peak Brazil. I don't fancy their chances, seems like a Lampard type appointment not a pragmatic one.
Maybe not, I wouldnt be disappointed if we signed him However, I do believe there is better out there but I'd happily have him
