Considering we don't have any midfielders, we ended the game with 4 CMs on the pitch. Shoddy game, we were the better team I guess. Take the 3 points and move on.
3 points but very poor performance in general. We could have lost that and we just don’t have enough quality in midfield. Leicester were on top in midfield and even Notts Forest carved through our midfield too easily.
Is Klopp still renting his house from Rodgers or has he moved/bought it yet? Thiago put in a good defensive shift. Darwin needs to take goal scoring and haircare lessons for Faes. Darwin's got some great attacking movements but Faes got the goals and the luscious hair.
Part of the MF problem is the team press has gone to **** and is just a relay of individuals chasing around instead of an organised wait till there is a hesitation / mistake and then press as a group .
You seem to want Elliott to be makele and Zidane combined or something? He’s a young kid learning how to play CM. He’s probably never had to make tackles growing up as he’s been best player in the youth leagues and been a forward. Given the performances of some of the senior lads, no need to dig out a young kid. Salah, Ox, Hendo, Robbo were all far worse than him tonight.
It would be harsh but I've seen them given for less. Hand away from body, even though completely unintentional, some refs would give that. Personally I don't think it should be given in that scenario but they occasionally are.
Bad games for Henderson and Ox. Decent games for Thiago and Nunez. Overall pretty mediocre and didn't look Premiership quality from either side.
Nunez all action performance again. Yes should score, but the guy gives everything every game, never stops running. Maybe that’s part of the problem, uses so much energy during the game that when gets his chances he’s knackered!! Just lacking the bit of composure. Think it’s going to be a whole season of that so think just have to accept it for what it is and appreciate he’ll score, but he’ll also miss 5 decent chances either side of those goals. Salah still worries me. His goal stats this season def paper over his performances. Looks like lacks any sort of pace, barely getting involved and can’t beat a man. Thought TAA had a decent game today. Not an awful lot going forward but Barnes was their main danger and barely got a kick, TAA stood up to him wel 1v1
On the plus side, Gakpo might be able to hit 30 goals for the season if he can put away the chances that Nunez is getting. I know Gakpo usually plays left, he obviously has played through the middle. Wonder if worth putting him there and nunez on the left. Would take bit of pressure off nunez to be main scorer, and can use his pace running the channels
he has to actually be able to do the basics sorry. he was getting walked about. when Keith came on he did better further up imo.
He was blowing the last 10 minutes. Looked totally knackered. I've got a lot of time for hard workers when they are not scoring and he seems to have a lot of support. Unfortunatley the fickle media will judge him only on goals
who knows but having the option will help us. I hope to god they get the permit for the next game and fabinho is back in as well.
Rashford against Everton was one. Ball bounced off the inside of shoulder (which isn't even supposed to count as handball anymore). I'd say that was comparable amount of handballiness as Thomas. Although for the record I don't think either should have been, I think far too many handballs are given.
Poor game all round, but we somehow won. Can we get Gakpo registered to at least come of the bench on 2/1/23 or is the FA shut down until then?
That’s the thing. And he’s creating chances for others and causing defenders issues with his running and stretching defences. Teams play high line and he has plenty space to run into. Add in all the hard work and guy puts in a shift and can’t fault him. Was only other day we were talking about Kuyt, was similar thing. Always put in a shift and lfc fans will always appreciate that. I’ve no worries about him. The goals will come. He’ll prob miss a chance to win the game a few times in the season and it’ll be frustrating but he’s a long term Project. Suarez, Salah, all missed tonne of chances first season.
