Not sure they’ve already got a replacement at the club. Gilmour might get few more chances if he does go, otherwise don’t have a like for like replacement. Prob have a few players lined up though as that type of club should and will have a succession plan for next 3/4 years with players who are likely to move and will need replacing etc.

I believe its already lined up.

Once we hear they are buying a player imo it's the signal the deal for caicedo is nearly done

Nothing about a lower age limit.

Bellingham was at Birmingham for 9 years before moving to Germany

It had a lower limit when it was introduced so unless they've changed it...

Maybe it's because it's supposed to be professionally trained rather than just at the club

The 16 rule is about moving countries

A player can not join a football club in another country before the age of 16, this is to do with EU rules.
So for Foreign players yes it was 16-21 originally.
Brexit has changed things for British players now though. I think British players can not longer move to Europe until 18 and the same for EU players coming to England et al.


So in terms of the HG rule, so long as a British player has been at a club for 3 years or more before 21 they're all Homegrown

Roger may be right here.

16 is the minimum age that a player must be before he can be moved overseas to play for another club. Which is why we think between 16 and 22.

But Roger does in fact appear to be correct. It is just three years before 21. 16 being the earliest age they can be shipped overseas to play (unless they had lived in the country five years already).

Bellingham not being a foreigner doesn't count for the having to be 16 before counting his years here.

There had been talk of making it stricter and to be homegrown you had to be in UK for the years from age 15 to 18 but that was never passed.

So... If I suddenly became good at football and turned pro... I wouldn't be considered home grown anywhere since I didn't play for a professional team when under the age of 21.

That might hurt my chances getting signed by Liverpool since we're low on Home Grown talent. Shame... Milner had been giving me hope that I might not be too old.

Makes sense. It is 16-21 if foreign and that's probably what was being reported initially

Which is 8 nationally homegrown, so 3 years before 21 at any club in said country (ie England)
4 of which have to be Club Homegrown. So they have spend 3 years at a club before 21.

However UEFA adds the fact that Homegrown only counts from 15-21 (unlike FA rules which doesn't have the bottom age limit).

He was 17 when he went to Dortmund? So no not under UEFA rules as they only start from 15.

"UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21."


That being said he might qualify in 1 years time if he moves to an English club this summer as he'll have added that extra 1 year he needs.
That is of course IF allows accumulation rather than having to be continuously

But, if I understand the rules, he would take up a foreign spot his first year and not count as an U21 freebie because he won't have been with the club for two years. U21 have to have been with club for two years to count as a U21 player that doesn't need to be registered.

So if he joined us next year he would take up a spot on the squad count for foreign players, but the year after he would at least qualify as home grown.

Yep all that is spot on.
 
Im sure this is why he is so eager to get his move then.

City or Chelsea of course will be delighted to add another over priced English player to the fold.
