Once remember Peter Taylor saying on Humberside about one of City’s players “ I liked him on the pitch and I liked him in the dressing room. Needless to say the car load of us going home after the match went silent with quizzical Looks at each other.
If it means we have to wait until the manager buys a top quality player to target up front on £800,000 a week with bonuses I guess things are unlikely to change. I'd be interested to know what % of fans agree with this system of over-playing it out from the back. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/erling-haaland-wage-premier-league-28177490
Looking back at the Blackpool away highlights, it seems inconceivable that Docherty didn’t start the home game too. He was outstanding in that game, capping the performance with sumptuous goal. The other big factors were Greaves getting forward much more, Longman playing up top, and Pelkas having one of his best games for us. Ok, with the latter injured, playing Longman wide and Oscar up top made sense. But Greaves needs to be allowed to go forward more, and the Doc is surely worthy of a start.
He seems to like players who can pass. Our squad built by McCann was largely the opposite of that: lots of high energy players with less of the quality on the ball. I suspect Rosenior might not have rated Honeyman for the same reason, if he was still here.
Sideways and backwards. How many passes does he make forward and how many of those are completed? He can’t tackle, he’s not an aerial presence, he’s not exactly a box-to-box player who covers every blade of grass. I really don’t understand what he offers the team. Stick Doc next to Seri and you’re at least guaranteed someone whose energy will cause problems even if he lacks technical ability. And I actually think Doc’s passing, vision and first touch has improved a lot since last season.
_ Problem with woods is If we didn't have seri, he'd play that role. Obviously nowhere near as good as seri, but alright for mid table championship Playing them both at the same time is just causing an unbalance, basically ****e and we need a new midfielder to supplement seri be that a new signing or one in the squad
He’s spot on but Doch does seem to have improved his touch . Problem for me is like woods and everybody’s hero Meyler ( I liked him too very underrated ) he and they only look and play in the way they face , they seem unable to look about or elsewhere for other options , it’s very limiting .
