CONNOR WICKHAM could be out of action for months after damaging knee ligaments in Sunderland’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

The £8m summer buy was stretchered off just two minutes into the match at Old Trafford after twisting his knee as he tried to charge down a clearance from Rio Ferdinand.

And boss Steve Bruce confirmed that the initial signs are not good for the 18-year-old former Ipswich man.

“It’s the big disappointment of the afternoon for us, because we think it is a serious knee injury,” he said.

“We hope that when we get the scans it is not as serious as it first looks, but the signs are not very good.

“It looks like a cruciate injury, but that is only the early diagnosis and we won’t know for sure until we get the scans back.”

If Bruce’s worst fears are realised, Wickham will be the EIGHTH Cats player to have suffered knee ligament damage in 18 months. Bruce added: “I’ve never known anything like it.

“We’ve had seven in the last 12 months – David Meyler and Fraizer Campbell have had two injuries apiece, Michael Turner, Titus Bramble and Craig Gordon.

“And now Connor could make it eight in 18 months. It’s just incredible.”

The 18-year-old striker appeared to slip and twist his leg awkwardly, leaving Bruce to contemplate the loss of another player to ligament damage.

Wickham is the latest Sunderland player to suffer such a setback along with Fraizer Campbell(twice), Titus Bramble, Michael Turner, Craig Gordon and David Meyler.

"That's the big disappointment of the afternoon for us because we think it's a serious knee injury, and that's now seven we've had in 12 months," said Bruce.

"We hope it's not what we think it is but the signs don't look good.

"It's unbelievable. I've never known anything like it."

The art of trolling is lost on every skunk that has ever appeared on our board.
Mainly as they don't know the meaning of subtle.

Craaaing about a footballers injury isn't trolling it is just showing you are a thick gormless child. <ok>

Calling you stupid isn't a bite it is stating a fact.
No need for thanks, always glad to do my bit for care in the community. <ok>

    'the art of trolling'

Good god. What is the world coming to. Having the one objective in life of being a total obnoxious prick is now a form of art..

You can make lulz at Connor all you want, but he's an 18 year old lad playing in one of the best sporting leagues in the world, earning tens of thousands of pounds a week.

I hope he recovers quickly and gets his place in the team back, and scores a shedload of goals this season.

Have you not popped onto their board MackemsRule?

He created an article saying the same thing. Only thing is, the rest of the mags haven't agreed. Suddenly Yohan4Cabaye changes his tone, questioning whether anyone found it funny, 'not that thought it was funny'.
