I always think there’s an evolution of frustration-support during a relegation battle which depends on your clubs expectations at the start of the season. We’re still in the what the ****, how has the board/manager/players ****ed up this badly, we should not be this **** and in the relegation zone. At some point, the teams position as a strong contender for relegation gets accepted by the fans. And that’s not to say that anyone is happy with it, but okay this is where we are and the only way we get out of it is together, and the support to try and help the team fight out of it will increase. Don’t think that’s just a Saints fan thing either but pretty normal behaviour.

It's not all bad though is it? We've spent the last decade in the top flight (the only club of our size to do it) and been to one cup final and two semi finals recently.
We all want a winning team but we are operating in the toughest league in the world and every club outside of the top six elite (even Everton) struggle at some point.
Maybe i'm old school but I like to enjoy my football in a nice positive atmosphere, win or lose and will back the players on a matchday even if they don't deserve it sometimes because they are representing the club I love.
Booing and moaning at players at the ground doesn't do anyone any good in my opinion but I will use the pub afterwards and this place to voice any grievances I may have with the club, manager and players.

I don’t think anyone is happy about being in a relegation battle. I just don’t see how turning on the club, the manager, or the players, is going to help in any way.

    Wise words!
It doesn't, never has, never will. It is what it is, we all know why, but that's it. We have a team which somehow needs to gain much confidence, a manager who I believe to be honest and dedicated to his role, together they know no one is happy, certainly they cannot be happy, so let's not make the situation even worse.

I actually think we might win this. Can see us parking the bus and hoofing our way to a surprise and undeserved win.

Or that's what'd happen if roles were reversed anyway.

To be honest it is a lottery what we pick and what we get. I feel like one of us in in charge now - and maybe NJ reads this forum and picks the side on fans votes. Who knows.

I hate being this negative, but I cannot see us improving enough to get out of trouble this year. Rot is too deep IMO.

    McCarthy/Caballero (depending on Mac’s fitness)
    KWP, ABK, Salisu, Perraud
    Stuart, JWP, Lyanco, Edozie,
    Adams, Mara

Bazunu is a good prospect, but it wouldn’t hurt for him to sit this one out, especially as I can envisage Mitrovic knocking him about a bit, just to unsettle him.
We’ve tried pretty much every other midfielder alongside Prowsey, when Romeu missed games last season and since he has departed, so now give Lyanco a shot. His positional discipline as a CB is poor so by moving him forward, to rampage through the midfield, should still see 2 CBs closing the gap behind him.
Don’t expect it to happen, but his personality could be infectious, especially if he wins a few big tackles in the middle of the park.
I can also envisage Mitrovic positioning himself against our FBs for crosses, so stopping the crosses at source could be essential.

As much as I think Lyanco would be perfect in midfield, the problem we have is that it would be genius or a disaster, no in-between. No way NJ can risk that so early in his career with us, as if it went pear shaped he may not recover. I personally think it would be genius though.

Go big or go home. :emoticon-0102-bigsm Could turn into our equivalent of Joelinton, who has been outstanding for Toon, in midfield.
Isn’t this a position that Smallbone could play in?
If so do we have a recall on him?

Whereas I think it would be a complete disaster. He hasn't got the technical ability to play in midfield.

We seem to have several midfielders with technical ability but they are bullied, cautious and spiritless. I'd give Lyanco a go in midfield. Think we need to gamble on something, he may just be the kick up the arse that midfield need.

Smallbone is too lightweight for DM. Wouldn’t stand a chance up against Paulinha in the midfield battle.

Would go with AMN again. He needs games. He can come good I’m sure.

If true, which I highly doubt, it shows the players are the problem.

Man. If only someone could have foreseen that a bunch of premier league players wouldn’t want to be managed by someone with zero top flight football experience. Who could possibly have seen this coming?!

Who could have seen you would instantly believe an unproved story that conveniently supports your views?
