We can’t if Chelsea decide to activate his buyback which kicks in this summer, and if we go down they might very well do that and loan him out again to a higher level side. We don’t need to sell I would imagine, it’s more the players forcing their way out if there is interest in them elsewhere.
Agree on your last point. Re: Tino. Going back to Chelsea makes no sense as he wouldn’t be first choice. Perhaps they could buy him to loan him again, but seems overly complicated. Then again their new owner is mental, so who knows.
Too early to discuss this, IMO. If we have a good January transfer window and play the rest of this season with a spine, just failing to stay up, we could carry that impetus into the Championship and have a go at an instant return. If we have a bad January transfer window and carry on playing lacklustre football, before getting relegated, we don’t just restart next season with a whole lot of confidence, because we are at a lower level, we restart with a squad full of bruised egos and a fragile mentality. Our performances against Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln have shown that we might struggle at a lower level.
Guess it all depends behind the scenes. They could quite easily be speaking to other clubs to see if they would loan him before activating the buy back. Not sure how these clauses work tbh but they could potentially be speaking to Livramento directly about possible loan moves and see if he would be interested or rather stay here.
I’d wager JWP might stay for one season. I think we would raise enough money from selling our centre backs & KWP.. I’d expect S.Armstrong to want to stay in the league. Adams & Perraud would be wanted by other clubs, but without looking at everyone’s contract situation then I can see this team being a promotion challenger Bazunu Livramento - Lyanco - Simeu - Larios Tella - JWP - Lavia - Edozie A.Armstrong - Aribo That’s not bad and doesn’t include anyone we bring in January and players we could take on with a bit of experience in the summer Im actually looking forward to going down now We’ll probably stay up on the final day
All of the above plus I get to at least 8 away games instead of 3. It would be nice to look at a fixture list and know we might win double figure matches. Don’t want it to happen but there are some up sides to it.
Maybe a season or two outside of the PL will give our fans a dose of reality that's needed and to be honest I'm caring less and less about the dullness of just making up the numbers. As long as we play attractive football, score a few goals and win a few games I don't really mind playing at a lower level. There i've said it.
In response to the OP, I would keep the youngsters and build a team around them and let them learn and play together outside of the extreme pressure of the PL. It certainly worked for Morgan and Adam.
Great. So this thread has so far established we would do well in the championship even with losing the odd player - time for someone to start the promotion thread! Pointless thread when we are 16 games into the season - not even at halfway yet. Let's focus on the current season shall we? Or maybe scrap the January transfer window thread and get summer '23 started instead.
No one is forcing you to read it. I don’t bother with the politics thread (it’s a football forum after all), but I don’t call it pointless.
thanks for trying to add some positivity to a disastrous footballing year for our club I forgot Mara in my team as well Mara, Edozie & Tella would be one hell of an exciting front line for the championship. Get a big strong target man and we’re golden
Let's see what happens at Fulham. I like others no doubt get a bit irritated with this kind of stuff, we've seen it many times from players over many years now, but I recognise that they're being asked to do this by some PR bod and might prefer to keep their heads down!
Or until it's mathematically impossible to stay up. That is the only time I'll be thinking along these lines.
