Have you seen this on www.newcastleunited-mad.co.uk

Makes interesting reading and may help to explain the position with Santon.

Santon Taking Longer To Settle Than Pardew Expected
    By Nu Mad
    Updated Friday, 4th November 2011

The French are allegedly well settled on Tyneside, but it is the Italian who seems to still have a lot of problems in the North-East.

It was none other than Jose Mourinho who warned us Davide Santon was not suited to the English game, and perhaps Alan Pardew should have listened to the "Special One"
Pardue says the defender is still undergoing his "Premier League education", following a difficult start to life at Newcastle.
Despite his £4.8m price tag, Santon is still not pushing Danny Simpson for his place at right-back because the Italian is still adapting to life in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old says he was left dumbfounded by several decisions that did not go his way on his debut at Blackburn when the boots were flying, and that apparently is not the game he plays.
Well he had better get used to it, because in England defenders are expected to "defend".
Alan Pardew: “There were a couple of set-plays that he was expecting to get.
“And in Italy he would have got them.
“But he didn’t get them here and he stopped playing.
“He now understands he is not going to get those type of free-kicks.
“When you get brushed in Serie A it is a free-kick but not in England.
“It is an awakening for him – the power of the Premier League. I think he has experienced that.
“But technically when he’s got the ball he very rarely gives it away and is a very sound player.
“He will add to our technical ability.
“It is technical players that take you up a level.
“He just has had to adjust to it.
“I’ve already seen a different side to him in training and he has a bit more confidence in him already.”

He's a big enough lad, got no concerns about him struggling to get to grips with the physical side. <ok>

That Santon article has been on another website for a while now. He's been pushing for a spot in the team since his lesson at Blackburn so he's obviously showing his physical side in training now.

I reckon we should charge the Scousers £20m if they want him after that goal yesterday.

Stepped up recently, made a cracking tackle yesterday too, right before he got fouled right on the touchline

Amazing what a bit of competition on the bench will do to performances

This tackle was probably the best tackle I've seen Simpson make in his whole career.
