I remember at least once early on, Longman (mostly right footed) on the left wing going outside his man and crossing with his left foot. It caught the defenders out but only Oscar in the box marshalled by two defenders.
a winger up the pitch is more effective at crossing an early ball than waiting for a full back to run further
A winger already in space, yet to receive the ball isn't doing anything any you're effectively playing with 10.
There's been so many positives from the 6 in charge so far, but people expect instant success which realistically was never likely. If we'd have taken 9 points from the last 3, I don't think it would've been unfair
Of course not. It's small margins but armchair managers on here seem to be channeling the spirit of Mike basset pub football when in reality it wasn't chance creation that was the problem yesterday, or playing out. 4 or 5 should have hit the target yesterday. Longman, Slater, Tufan, Sinik all should have done better with the opportunities they had.
have you been coaching City? is that why a City player with the ball who looks upfield can never find one of their players in space?
That's to do with pace isn't it. We don't have any without Ali. If your wide players aren't in contact with their fullbacks and they don't have pace to get back then we end up with our own fullbacks getting done on the overlap when the pass doesn't come off, and end up 2 or 3 down at half time like before. Also if you don't have pace and try to get to the byline every time then it's easily dealt with by a basic offside trap.
I seem to have watched a different game where we were constantly making mistakes from playing out from the back? That’s the way some of you are making out it played out. We made 1 mistake and we’re punished, had Oscar not hit the bar, Christie not ballooned his shot over the bar people wouldn’t be criticising the style at all. They created **** all until we abandoned our shape that is clearly protecting a lot of the bang average players we have. 11v11 they created nothing and if we had a bit more confidence we’d have been 2/3-0 up in 20 minutes.
The booing thing whilst still embarrassing is an old chestnut. Confidence is important. It comes from a belief in your own ability. Re educating the mindset is something again that needs time and patience and of course… the right tutor. Answers on a postcard. Allam’s GONE
He's a forward who can play wide as well as through the middle, and I believe he was envisaged to be competing for the right hand of a 3 berth at the start of the season. If you're talking about the traditional winger as seen in a 4 4 2 ( who usually did nowt all game except go on a couple of mazy runs and be a passenger for 80 mins) then you'll struggle to find one in the modern game.
Confidence ultimately comes from results mate. Get more of it from drawing than getting hammered week in week out but it's well enough known for any away side to use the home crowd to their advantage and city fans are some of the easiest to turn. It's been years now we've had a better away record than home and the only time we haven't is when the fans were locked out. What does that tell you about confidence and our home support? If fans made no difference to performances they wouldn't be referred to as the 12th man when things are going well either. Truth is fans can be a help or a hindrance depending on whether things are going well or not, because they do affect confidence.
Manchester City and Liverpool have these winger things who stand on the touchline and provide an outlet for other players if they are marked they use their pace to collect a ball put behind the marker
Theres ya problem. The ones available at the moment don't have the pace to beat a man, or get back. You have to be individually faster then your opposition man to play that way. Liverpool and Man C have the players. We haven't had most of the season cos all our placey players pinged their hamstrings/tore muscles in the early games of the season or in pre season training. Makes me wonder what went on there.
It doesn’t matter what side Allahyar plays he will score 75 goals and fire us to promotion on the left or the right because that’s just the type of player he is.
The kind of home support we both want happens elsewhere mate. Football is not deeply embedded in certain City’s ...that bugs me as much as you. We can fill the ground..but little else. Been like it for 60 years. Allam’s GONE.
He's scored just once so far. His best work has been direct running and picking pockets. If Oscar can reproduce yesterday's performance on a consistent basis then we have what we need up top.
If you read his post he's actually got it spot on. We created plenty, but we're wasteful. We gifted them 1 chance. A goal down against 10 men we bring 5 forwards on and commit forward leaving space at the back that's where they created the bulk of their chances on the counter. Not from us playing out. I didn't actually think Smith on for Jones was the right change at the time as I thought we were bang in control of the game and it was just a matter of time. In the event he didn't get into the game. It was no surprise when we equalised as it had been coming for about 20 mins, just we kept missing.
