Fair play to you for admitting that, there are thousands of others who wouldn't have the guts to do so. Others rightly said be careful what you wish for and that was borne out and then some. I too thought Ralph had done all that he could and needed to move on but given the choice I'd have stuck with him for sure. Problem is we now have a squad full of inexperienced and inadequate players being led by an inexperienced and quite possibly inadequate manager. That, is a recipe for getting our arses kicked all the way to championship. NJ needs to get his **** together and lose that rabbit in the headlights demeanor that he's been wearing since he arrived. We need to see some fire and brimstone.
so regarding Bazunu’s signing was he one that the recruitment guy from Man City helped us sign when he came to us, who has now buggered off to Chelsea? Just seems completely fishy and inept
They did try to sign a striker who did well in the World Cup and is now priced out what we can afford. I think we spent too much effort on him with no possible alternatives if that failed
Bazunu didn’t have the best of games yesterday, but he’s been far away not one of the problems this year. The problem is our midfield is a revolving door. Easily out fought, muscled, anticipated and ****e at tracking their men. So often this season we’ve conceded from a pull back cross as our midfield are just sat watching and let their runners go. Prowse isn’t a captain, and is lucky that there is no one fighting for his position as it should be under threat. We need a midfield rebuild in January and a striker. Not worried about the defence as I feel they’re generally a good bunch but have no support or cover. Although I would prefer Caleta Carr and Kotchap starting in place of the 2 yesterday. Unlike others, Jones has my support and will do for a while. He inherited a team with no identity or confidence. That’s not going to change over night.
Yep. We actually didn’t start the season that horribly. But then Ralph is the worst manager ever, or something.
Having slept on it I still can't believe there are genuinely people wanting Jones sacked after THREE matches. SW even has a Jones out thread that already has over 150 posts It's beyond pathetic it really is.
Yep. Deserves ten games and several signings of his choice before judgements are made. Yesterday was woeful, the team selection a real head-scratcher. But as long as he recognises the errors and makes improvements, I reckon he can get something out of this team. I know a lot of people will say it will be too late by then, but that isn't Jones' fault.
We shouldn’t get too revisionist either. Fact is, the vast majority of people here thought the summer window was ‘one of the best ever’ and barring missing a striker was A grade. So…
Thing is, the missing striker completely undone any other good work which was done. As did selling our best player other than KWP without replacing him. There probably were lots of people celebrating the window at closure on here (I was on holiday so couldn't say) but I think a lot of people grossly underestimated the impact of the above, particularly the latter. This forum also is more positive than negative so is more likely to emphasise the good and gloss over the bad. There was also a sizeable amount of people saying it was incredibly risky to rely so heavily on youth throughout the summer iirc so I don't think it's too revisionist to say these things now personally.
Agreed, but the whole ‘worst squad since relegation’ stuff certainly wasn’t the tune being sung going into the season.
No, but based on the evidence of my eyes since then I would say we have no fight, no character and are probably as bad as the relegation team. At least they would fly into tackles. This lot were absolutely pathetic yesterday. I think we only got 1 yellow? And that was Aribo late on. In a game where we were being completely embarrassed, I don’t remember a single bit of aggression. That wouldn’t have happened in 2005. I don’t even think it’s too revisionist. Loads of us said withoht a striker we are ****ed and that the youth is a huge gamble. We were all trying to be positive on here but we all saw it
Yeah agreed. The squad is poor but so are plenty of others. I think lack of confidence is a big an issue as any at this exact moment. As mentioned yesterday we really need to get a signing in to give the whole club a lift. We can't wait around until deadline day imo.
Maybe the actual spending of money glossed over the reality, and the mystique of the City connection.
Yes, I think signings may lift the doldrums, especially in key areas where the squad will obviously know thy are lacking.
Would help if we had hired an actual manager instead of a PE teacher that is nowhere near PL Level. No one could have predicted the board would hire someone so obviously out of his depth. Seriously what the **** has he been doing for six weeks? I understand Brighton are a good side now but we made it so incredibly easy for them yesterday. I am absolutely baffled. They literally looked like prime Barcelona playing against our disorganised rabble
I think we can all agree that yes the squad is a bit **** We can all agree for the majority of his tenure Ralph did a great job with one hand tied behind his back I think the majority would agree that Ralph had run out of ideas, time and had lost his way He looked a shell of his former self. It was right for him to go but should have happened earlier. What's really really really ****ing me off is the effort put in to his replacement. It wasn't even a full week before NJ was named successor. How in the name of Pluto's dick did anyone at the club think NJ was a good idea? What was his attributes that the club wanted? Experienced in a PL relegation dogfight? Nope. Experienced with elite youngsters? Nope. 200+ PL games? Nope. A name which could unite a divided fan base? Nope. The ****ing arrogance to think they can reinvent football.... He's actually made the team worse. I've watched both the Lincoln and Brighton game in person and we look far far worse than we did under Ralph. The players don't understand the tactics nor the formation. There's nothing NJ has done to stamp his "identity" on this team at all. Make no mistake, this was not a battling defeat. We were really really poor all over the pitch. Brighton didn't even get out of second gear.
