This.. along with hopefully Simpson and Santon or maybe Santon and a new LB? Wishful thinking anyways.

Lets hope so, though Simpson, Williamson, Taylor and a new centre half would be good cover.

Apparently we're looking at a new LB and Santon is now pushing Simpson for a spot <ok>

Think people should give Gosling a chance, he's barely played a game for us what the ****. Made an outstanding save yesterday too.

If we loaned them to Birmingham would they be allowed to play in Europe? Drop to a championship team and gain European experience!!

We do appear to have quite a few players out on loan at the moment, do we have that much depth? Or are we just keeping people sweet, knowing that an injury patch will occur?

We've got a lot of youth players who need playing time to gain experience. Abeid, Vuckic, Ferguson, LuaLua etc all very good youth players but not yet able to break through to the first team on a regular basis. But definitely don't want to let any of them go. So depth in that sense, but wouldn't say we've got bags of depth when it comes to first team. Although Guthrie definitely stepped up his game so covered there really. Just defense where we're not.

And I think they would have had to be registered beforehand for Europe? Possibly wrong.

    Welcome to the forum <ok>

I reckon the latter, I'm sure Pardew will want them (Abeid and Vuckic) playing 9-10 games over the Christmas period in time for Jan so we have some reasonably fit and experienced cover for the ACoN and the inevitable mid-season injuries.

I see Abied/Vuckic/LuaLua as the development players in the squad and sending them out on loan is vital for their development as they fall into that bracket of to good for the reserves but not quite ready for our first team. Welbeck and Cleverly are really the examples we should aspire to, back from loan and sraight into first team, Beckham (Preston NE) and Gillespie (Wigan) did the same route many years ago. We did the same with Bernard when we first signed him if i remember rightly (SBR : "we sent him down a league or two to toughen him up" - or words to that effect).

Think Sam Allardyce touched on it when he was here, that we had a first team and a reserve team, but no developmental players (18-22 years old) that were being progressed. For all the faults he had regarding the way we wanted to play, he does know how to structure the stuff behind the scenes.

Good offer to Colo, not many would give him the security of a 5 year contract.
