It was clearly about playing time. He didn't get it, so he retired. If he was coming for the money, he wouldn't have ripped up the contract and retired mid-season would he?
Ok I get that, but if it was solely about playing time then surely he would have just carried on playing after he tore his contract up with us?
He wouldn't have been able to sign for anybody else until this summer anyway as we held his registration. Seems pretty clear to me he quickly found out he'd "lost it" and didn't want to lower himself further down than the biggest club in League One. He wanted his big goodbye with us and didn't get the playing time. If it was for a final payday he'd have kept sitting on the bench pocketing the cash.
I’ve never once said it was his big pay day or he signed just for money, I’m saying he signed from rangers and a high profile signing, he would have been the highest paid in the league by a mile. Meaning, the club will be in the same position this year in the championship but at a higher level. Just hear people say the club pay buttons, like Pritchard is on 5k is madness.
Agree with that. I do think lads will be on more than £5k per week. Baath was on big money at Stoke by all accounts, he hasnt come here for £5k imo. Evans likely the same. Ross wont be our top earner, by any means imo. I dont think we go to £24k but the question is how close do we go. Would £15k do it I wonder, with release clauses. Would that be a figure the club can get to?
I think a lot of you think we pay good proper wages, we don't, A decent journo printed a few weeks ago about 6 or 7 of our 1st team wages, and they were ****. Please remember I quoted Pritchs wages from his 1st div contract they all got a decent rise for promotion. I know AN would offer him a canny bit more than we will, but it's further south they want to be.
Rossco will have been offered the maximum we can offer within the current structure imo. That's all we can do currently, if it's not enough then so be it and he moves on and a replacement comes in.
I can't believe our wage structure is as tight as people are making out, Clarke, Roberts, Baath, Ballard, Cirkin won't have been on peanuts at their previous clubs. Would be very unusual if all of them had taken pay cuts to join us. As others have said, I assume we have offered Stewart the most we can, if that's not enough then so be it. Players come and players go, there will still be 11 lads that need our support every game
I reckon we are paying up to £15k or so at the moment and can stretch to about £20-25k but Stewart wants about £30k. Guesswork of course
Don't think anyone on here knows what our wage structure is, like you have said some of those players won't be on small wages
A lot on here just sounds like the usual speculation because the window is approaching. Nobody knows if Stewart wants to stay or how much he wants, plus if we don't want to sell he still has 18mths left on his contract. I don't think he will go anywhere this window
Well you said he wants to sell him, how would you know that? I get people here some things, but speakman isn't going to make it public knowledge if he does want to sell him. Add to that that's the opposite of what KLD said
I imagine we're paying them the same as every other team around us is paying their players. Seems odd to assume otherwise. I know we're working on a budget (same as everyone else is) but it doesn't mean it's an ultra tight stingy one. Just a normal, sensible one.
