Agree mate. I honestly think they deserve so much. I would say though I wouldnt want their job, but my sister in law is a nurse and she openly states she couldnt possibly cope with my job, or the stresses, in the same way I couldnt do hers. I am office based, although that doesnt really describe the current way we work. I am not in any way suggesting they dont deserve more, they do, but I do think there are plenty of very demanding jobs, that take a toll, and we shouldnt assume it is always easier just because we are not on the front line, so to speak. Just an opinion.
I was applying to be a nurse at 16. I then spoke to a few of my relatives who did the job and, even at that age, knew I wouldn’t be able to do it. From an ability perspective, no problem, from a personal perspective, I couldn’t handle it. Was a carer for 3 years in an EMI home. Residents were all “elderly“ and I found it extremely difficult when one of them died. The nurses are unbelievable. Their job is one of the hardest imo. They deserve a massive pay rise for what they go through.
As I've mentioned earlier my mam was a cancer nurse My sister is now a matron, but was for a while a senior nurse at the Royal London Chest specialising in heart conditions. Pretty impressive as my sister hates blood! Dad started as a nurse and worked up to be in charge of nursing services and midwifery, specifically juggling staff levels etc. All 3 of them are incredibly proud to have / are working in the NHS, the stress all 3 of them have been through with horrendous under funding, staff shortages, not being able to give the care they want because of cost etc is unbelievable. I moan I get stressed when I don't win an order or a client changes his mind, dad spent a year pretty much on call 24/7 as cutbacks meant an entire trust were on permanent yellow alert for bed space. These strikes are about the pay, it is the conditions, the impossibility they face trying to give first class care with no support. Remember the big fuss about clapping them? Well they need support now. Don't fall for the MSM headlines
Heroes mate. You are right to be proud. I have been through the cancer treatment process with my wife. She had a very agressive and nasty variant (probably all are I am sure). They threw the kitchen sink at her because, every possible drug, and treatment they could. She was a very young mum at the time. It was a slog but she made a great recovery. The whole NHS was amazing but I always remember the cancer ward nurses when having chemo. They were so bloody upbeat. I am one of lifes great believers and I was 100% committed to my wifes recovery. I wouldnt let anybody br downbeat. I was worried it would be a depressing experience but they made it so light if that makes sense. I remember when we finished treatment and rang the bell, nurses all aplauding and smiling. I remember thinking I hope these moments offset in some way all the horrible moments. I hope that is true of all medical professionals, that in some way they take pride and satisfaction when they save a life, or achieve another miracle. I hope they value the wins, they should in my opinion. My kids wouldnt have had a mum if it wasnt for our NHS, no doubt about it, they will always have my gratitude. I always go back to the ward on the anniversary of that bell ringing and leave a couple of boxes of biscuits for the nurses. Something and nothing really and I can never really repay them. But I certainly back them now.
Mam is a firm believer in the power of positivity, all the team on her ward where determined that the unit was a place of respect, positivity, dignity and the best care the patient could possibly receive.
I would like to state a belief - not a fact more a gut feeling. A feeling that has been gaining strength for a few years. Forget 19% or any percent at all and look at the state of the NHS as a whole. Decrepid and crumbling - the buildings and the morale of all within. l now believe that there is a dogma being religiously followed by the current government and been followed systematically for many years to make the free at point of need NHS appear to be in need of reform. The reform would be PRIVATISATION ala theUSA and the health insurance companies. I feel the current government feels that the state should have no control WHATSOEVER over services to the people. Water, power, education and our North Sea resources - all should be privately owned even if the owners are foreign states and often paying zero tax to our exchequer. The belief being the people of the UK should get no benefits if they are not rich enough to be shareholders. It is almost a religious fervour a form of political fanaticism - ‘’l’m alright jack and tough sh!t if your not’’
What I can’t get my head round at the minute is they must know they are finished when the next election comes round, so why are they not going above and beyond to turn this round instead of making the public hate them more?
Are they though? I still think their biggest ally in voting terms is the quality of the opposition. Hope I’m wrong, I just don’t think Starmer has enough support to oust the Tories. Really hope I’m wrong
You could be right mate to be fair, but if/ when Labour win they have a lot on their shoulders to change things and if they don’t 5 years down the line they’ll be gone as well, pathetic isn’t it.
Staff having to pay to park at work is beyond rancid. Some aren't guaranteed a space aswell. As for the whole debate, I've recently had a family member that was nearly not here for Xmas, they're OK now, but nearly wasn't, specialist saved their life and the after care was outstanding. its all part of a care system, the specialist drive the porsche, Nurses get the bus. The powers that be need to give them a decent pay rise they deserve the tight fisted ****ers, and if they really need to, take it out of the 147 million they made from parking fees on hospital grounds last year. ****in ridiculous it's even and issue. Care workers that are treated like **** and paid peanuts need some recognition aswell. Bastard greed pisses me off. The amount of pointless cum bubbles making a fortune in this country, and yes MPs I'm talking to you is the problem. Rant over.
I think you are spot on, the tories panicked at the thought of a popular left wing government, concocted an unfounded smear campaign which led to the rise of the unelectable no hoper Sir Keir Starmer, a means to an end if ever there was one, the end of any credible opposition. The sooner labour realise this the better imo and look further afield than the Quisling camp followers and elect a credible, electable leader , fail to do this and I also fear another lost generation.
Sorry mate l just don’t see the logic in what you say. ‘If they (Labour) don’t then 5 years down the line they’ll be gone’ The gradual mismanaging constantly over 12 years combined with breathtaking sleaze and corruption we the public have continually voted them in. Now please don’t give me that hoary old chestnut ‘ah but Starmer COULD or POSSIBLY/PROBABLY/MIGHT as bad or worse’. Jeesus l would give my mother-in-law a go at running the country to get rid of these immoral ‘criminals’. Is it that we are simply simply afraid of change?
I agree with a lot of that. However there's also a religious fervour on behalf of the NHS where the only answer that's allowed is 'more money'. That's why the easy out for the Tories is to say they're spending more money than before. They are, but it's getting worse. It reminds me a bit of when the Irish lads were at Sunderland, paying silly money left right and centre. The answer was always to spend indiscriminately rather than cleverly and look where it left us. All these health systems the UK is constantly measured against - Germany, France etc - they're all far more privatized than the NHS.
I believe you have misread what I’ve wrote, I meant if nothing is any better after 5 years of Labour they will be voted out as well, and hey ho we are back on the merry go round again.
And l repeat WHY ? The electrate have not acted or re-acted in this manner in the face of incompetance many times over 12 years. Why expect it to do this just because it is a labour government? This is the part of your arguement l have difficulty with. l believe the strength of our political system has been the removal of parties from government when they begin to be complacent and govern for THEMSELVES rather than the country. These changes did not destroy the country we transfered power easily and smoothly and each party knew to deliver or go. But now we seem terrified of change. It is time to give some others a chance, it is time to grow a pair and say we are tired of your sleaze, corruption and looking after your mates.
Why expect it to do this just because it is a labour government? Because that’s what happens, simple as.
I think the election of Corbyn has short-circuited the usual process. Normally when a government is clearly on it's last legs, the opposition have had time to sort themselves out into a reasonably competent alternative, and round it goes. In the normal scheme of things the Tories would have been gone in 2017, 2019 at the latest. Labour looked utterly hopeless at that point though so the Tories have been kept we past their sell by date purely because the alternative looked even worse. Labour would be having the same issues with the NHS now, I think. It's a structural problem.
