I guess the forked tongue gives them double the chance of success.

Drove down to S Wales on Tuesday to fetch my mam back for Christmas. Lovely sunny afternoon driving down the valleys of a number of rivers including the Welsh Dee, Severn, Wye, Usk and Taff. A glorious winter day.
Coming back yesterday was a different story. Low cloud and periods of heavy rain.
But, the shortest day is now behind us and the nights are drawing out. Soon be Spring.<cheers>

I'm slightly north of South Wales at the moment (about 660 miles north).
Looking out over the biggest sky I've ever seen with hen harriers getting mobbed by ravens. Glorious blue skies on my left, fluffy cloud in the middle and grey clouds to the right. Last night was clear with no light pollution and the stars blue me away again. Will try and share photos when I figure it out.
Getting fed up with the traffic noise though as I've just seen my ninth car in four days!
It's a different world and I love it

If you're 660 miles north of Cardiff, you must be in John O'Groats or even Kirkwall in the Orkneys. <yikes>

Glad you are enjoying your trip north.
I spend quite a bit of time in remote places enjoying the simple things in life. A lot to be said for it.

First full day with Mam at our house.

    First falling out.

Despite being with us for several weeks 4 or 5 times a year and apart from a 6 month period, us having had a dog for 15 years, mam's not trained yet.

Hell dog has a field day.
Today we shut him out of the living room while mam had lunch.
Next thing she's opened the door for him, leaving her bacon sandwich easily accessible.

I've been guilty of something like that. Some lunchtimes I enjoy a couple of Walls microwave sausages and a bread roll. If you haven't tried them you're missing out. Box of 6 packed in 3 x 2 cellophane wrapped pairs - 2 minutes in the microwave - bloody delicious - problem is the dogs like them as well. <doh>

Usually carry them into the lounge with a mug of coffee. One time I forgot to pick up the coffee so put the plate of sausages and bread roll on the arm of the chair and went back out to the kitchen for my mug. I came back in to find the plate and bread roll on the floor and a two dogs with a sausage each. I had to microwave 2 more, but then that's life.

Drove to our flat in Poole last night. Due to a smash just off J.18 had to detour around Chippenham like every other driver going south. The usual 3 hour trip took 4 1/2 hours.

Got to Poole and the digital screen on our boiler was looping the loop. No heating or hot water. Whore's bath this morning with water heated on the hob to wash in.

After trying 6 plumbing engineers I eventually got 1 to call. The printed circuit board on the boiler has expired. He is trying to order one for tomorrow. Fingers crossed as another arctic blast is expected over Christmas and next week.

I earlier called the manufacturers who wanted an up front £325 call out charge. The robbing barstewards.

Hope we get heating on tomorrow. The engineer will be given a grateful bottle of something alcoholic as well as his fee.

Should have given me a shout.....<whistle><whistle>

I'm still running a 35 year old Potterton Netaheat 16/22. Marvellous old cast iron heat exchanger and fairly simple PCB. OK, so it's not a condensing boiler and frowned upon now as a bit of a dinosaur - I've nicknamed it Colin........<laugh>

It's not been without it's problems and spares for Colin are now difficult to source, but I've built up a box of components from online sources over the years. I can't bear to part with him......<wah>

Hey clingo - I've been lucky recently with my rare species observing as well.

One day last week I even spotted a postman.
