****ing sign me up! got a summons for this next month; "the court will generally sit between 10am and 4pm" lazy, workshy bastards! i'm in there, pray for a complex murder trial anyone done this before? i know i probably wont get selected but i'm sure i can squeeze at least a day out of it
what court is it? if its sheriff it will be a wee ned slashed another ned, you'll be there for a week tops. if its high court u'll be there for weeks. i got sheriff once and the case lasted under half an hour, jackpot
I'd love to get called up for jury duty but never have I don't understand why ****s would turn it down. My dads turned it down a few times.
its for the high court if it's gonna drag for wks might have to flag up the whole wedding malarky i'm looking for a new job so its not like i'm fussed about missing work, plus i leave the flat at 7:30 and get in at 7 or later each night so rolling out at 9 and back for 5 would be ****ing awesome do you actually get a choice magic?
Yeah if you have valid reason then you can decline it. My dad was self employed then and argued he would lose far too much money. He didn't have anyone else working for him and was making between 10 and 20 grand a week. I think they would have only paid him expenses if he took up the jury duty.
You need to have a real good excuse to turn it down. Or you could just act all racist, sexist & be ott aggressive to make sure your not selected.
screw that, i'm well up for it. you thought that MP's could make a mockery of their expenses? ****ing stand by!
I got called up the other month, but with no definite case detailed, so I assume they can just summon me whenever it suits them. Reading the bumf you get with the letter,it seems like it is pretty much compulsory, and if you don't play along , you can be done for it.
I've done it before, Sheriff court, it was a drugs trial. You have about a 1 in 3 chance of getting picked for it and the best way out of it, if you want out, is to say you know the person on trial.
i'd rather do it than work for a living but not exactly fussed if i dont. how long do these things last? since its the high court at least it'll be something fun who knows, i might be able to wrangle a bung out of it
It totally depends, the one I was on lasted 5 days. High court I reckon will be at least a week. Could be longer. If it's well complicated could be weeks.
Last time I was in a court room I was scoffing, sighing & muttering when the witnesses were talking. When the judge looked over I turned round at some woman at started shaking my head Can you do jury service if you have a criminal record? I want to do it but I'm not sure if I could because of my previous convictions. Plus all my post goes to my moms house & I never open it.
not sure brum, is it like a basic civil right/duty like voting? you cant vote if you're in prison can you?
what'd probably happen is you'd get selected but dismissed. i know someone who's a teacher and its happened 3 times to him, apparently they think teachers are likely to be too lenient so someone with convictions might go into the same category.
I'm up for jury duty on the 24th of this month at Glasgow high court, I would rather go to work than sit about a courtroom all day listening to too guys trying to distort the truth.
i'm just up for shaving 4-5 hours off my day you'll have to let me know the script. i'll just sleep with my eyes open for most of it then on the last day decided on their guilt based on 2nd name and accent democracy in action.
