The ref yesterday was typical L1 standard, why was their keeper not even booked for the pen? why when their no. 11 crossed that ball that went nowhere near any Charlton players (the ref pointed at Harmer?) did he give a Preston throw in? why did he give that freekick at the end of the first half when all Morrison did was head the ball away? Seems strange after a 5-2 home win but the ref was trying his hardest to keep Preston in the game with some very strange decisions. AllHell
I thought the ref. bottled it for the penalty, he knew that if he brought out a card it had to be red, and poor Preston were getting hammered with 11 men so let's not make things any worse for them, eh? For that free-kick I thought their no11 cleverly conned the ref by backing into Morrison and falling over. The throw-in was just a howler which fotunately was not important.
Watched the Football League Show this morning, and the Preston goalie's tackle was about as bad as some others in the league where the goalies were sent off. Still, it meant 11 v 11, 5 v 2.
A yellow card came up against Hamer on the screen yesterday, anyone see him get booked? Thought the foul that took Wagstaff down hard near the corner was worth a yellow as well. What did the lino do to take himself off? He was sitting with an ice pack on his shoulder. Signalling offside too vigorously?
Hamer was booked for kicking the ball into the stand after their first goal. Waggy didn't even get a freekick after being hacked down, it was just a throw in (Kermit was almost booked afterwards for defending Waggy) Thought the lino had the ice on his leg? Why wasn't the replacement lino booked for timewasting with that daft warm up of his?
I think Hamer getting booked for kicking the ball away at the end v The Preston keeper getting away with taking out Kermit just shows the usual inconsistancy of referees
Preston had no goalie on the bench, I just wonder if that played a part in the ref's decision not to send him off. Of course it shouldn't, but then this is League 1 standard refereeing.
I thought the ref was doing ok. Was letting the game flow and seemd not to be too fussy. Then he made a bizarre decision at the penalty incident. I don't even think the 'last man' debate comes into it. It was a horrendous, two footed challenge that deserved a red anyway. Then Hamer is booked for whacking the ball away (when the ball was dead due to a goal being scored - it's not like e was stopping them taking a quick free kick or anything). And that final challenge on Waggy was awful. The ref seemed to be a few seconds behind everyone else.
The ref even needed to look to his linesman before giving the penalty... but how he could give it wthout even a booking was ridiculous. Mind you, this is the league that gave us the ref who tried to give a goal after whistling for play to stop having reversed his offside deceision because he'd only imagined the lino was flagging... or something.
If you look at the Bury game, a keeper got sent off for taking the striker (Bishop) down rather softly. On the other hand, the keepers challenge on Kermorgant could have broken his shoulder/neck, when we got the penalty I was more concerned with Kermit being okay rather than whether or not we scored, pretty certain the lack of a card was more out of sympathy for Preston.
Surely that was a proffesional foul in my book comes running out and clatter kermit up in the air, surely a red !refs it seems are scared of the crowd reaction ie at old trafford yeterday blatant penalty for sunderland handling in area that in my view a sending off and a penalty perhaps a prof ref can come on here and explain
It was a straight red and it could of proved costly...2 0 we miss the pen they get a gpal back and game on. Then Hamer gets booked rediculous and funny enough the ref did ok then that bizzare decision.
