Anyone who's sure the nurses don't deserve what they're asking for, or there's not enough money to pay them, must be certain of their facts. They can't just have guessed or taken the Government's word for it ... ... so my question to them is, what percentage would you give them?
One suggestion I found interesting was that of a flat rise - i.e. say 5 grand a year, whether you're on eighty grand or twenty five grand a year. That might cut the bill considerably while still helping the lowest paid.
A great solution to our current situation, unfortunately there's no benefits for the MPs or bankers so it's a non starter
It surely has to be part of the solution doesnt it. Anything that is easy to understand is usually the best thing to do, in my experience anyway. As I have said earlier though I dont want my kids to be paying for the challenges of my generation. I want to pay for my own situation and give them a fair chance of a decent life. So lets find ways to pay for this stuff in the short term, not the long term.
The vast majority of us are all way worse off financially since the Tories came to power. They blame one thing after another but during that time the most wealthy have absolutely racked it in. They have took us for mugs for too long.
During the years of Tory Austerity, if you had Assets, houses, land, stocks and shares even "art". Your wealth increased massively ahead of inflation. If you were low paid, and had little or no pay increases, you gradually became poorer. In a family, both parents had to work long hours, even then cos the their wages were so low they are entitled to 'benefits'. The gap between rich and poor expanded the number of food banks rose hugely, more kids were on free school meals.
Little enough time for most MPs. But their pay is decided by a review body. This year it was decided that they would recieve the average of public sector awards. From April 2022, this year they will recieve 2.7%.
What it doesn't tell you is the benefits they receive on top of the wage. I have very little time for politicians of all parties, they have completely lost touch with the British people to such a degree they cannot offer our hard working NHS staff a decent wage for a more than decent workforce. MP's are so closeted in their sets, Cotswold set, Islington set to name a couple along with the House of Lords, it needs a complete overhaul to bring them back to reality.
Couldnt agree more mate. Our political system needs a rethink. I notice the speaker of the house has today said he thinks labours plans on the Lords is a bad one. Shows the sort of road ahead in reforming, very very difficult and I doubt any of the current political crop have the nous to do a decent job of it.
The Speaker worried his place in the Lords will not happen maybe. Be interested with proposal for the Lords but would like a much smaller 2nd chamber with much tighter restrictions and trial PR
So around £2200 for an MP on £81k still 50% more than the nurse pay award for people with more disposable income to start with. I got that wrong (I didn’t notice the pay review body coming in after the MPs were found to be lining their pockets with out money for decades) and have been corrected but in 2015 ish they were awarded 10% at a time when inflation was 2% ish maybe they rolled all the money they didn’t give the public sector since 2010 into an award for the mps for saving the country with their bullshit austerity holding the workers of the country back as punishment for a global financial crisis caused by greed - not least the greed of the bankers.
Another interesting suggestion I heard on the way home - bring next year's independent pay review forward.
The NMC are not expecting 19% but went in silly to let the Govt negotiate a sensible package. When MPs have had 28% over the last 12 yrs whist the nurses have had very little it seems fairly fair to me. For what its worth it needs to be all of the workers in the NHS otherwise it will be the usual divide and conquer splitting groups off and making it easier to pick off in the future.
It shows you how gormless Barclay is when you see him trying to convince the public it’s the ambulance drivers fault that patients aren’t getting seen, when some of them are sitting 12 hours in their ambulance’s every day waiting to unload their patients. Has he any qualifications for his position at all.
I despise this government line about we have to abide by the decision of the independent pay body. When the independent pay body recommended pay rises in my line of work the government refused to accept it and said it was unaffordable but in the same breath accepted the pay rise they were given. They’re now pedalling the line that the nurses have chosen to harm patients by going on strike. This is the first in over 100yrs I think. The lines of ambulances trying to get patients into A&E have been getting worse over a period of years not over the last couple of days. All on the tories watch. C**nts!!
National debt is completely different to personal, business or household debt FellTop. We have had a fairly constant level of national debt as a percentage of GDP since the 1600’s, it is how governments manage the economy. The idea that it will be a future burden on our children is a false narrative put out to control the masses.
They talk about that but I’ve had a % increase every year since joining the NHS in 2008. Nurses have had the same pay rise. the pay freeze is a myth for the lower paid nurses. The “management level “ nurses have had a pay freeze, but not the band 5, 6 & 7s. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully in support of them, although 19% is completely unrealistic. There was a quote the other day saying they couldn’t afford to live on their 27k wage. I know people working 70 hours fir less than 20k who can manage as they cut their cloth accordingly. So don’t say they can’t afford to live as you’ll get no support from the public saying that. Use a different reason fir the pay rise as mentioned on here about the MPs, not struggle to afford to live
If nurses wages and conditions are so good why are they quitting and throwing away all those years of training ... ... and why aren't others queuing to join up?
