I think letting Fleming go would be a mistake, regardless of how good we think he is. We've got Elder out of contract at the end of the season and unless there's a huge turnaround in thinking, I can't see him staying. Fleming offers a much more direct threat as a WB (I said before I think Elder is a better LB), but there's things Rosie can work on with Brandon, I just don't see Elder improving and he looks the same now as he did when he first arrived (obviously looked much better in League One). Elder isn't a bad player by any stretch, but he isn't Championship level and to push on we need better. Also, Fleming signed a new three year deal in the Summer, with an option, be costly to release/sell him for peanuts.
I agree, of the two I think it is more likely Elder moves on, Greaves does look at home at left back and adds another body of height in the area in addition to the 2 centre backs, so probably Greaves and Fleming vying for the left-back spot.
as yapusi alluded to for greaves personal development, him continuing to play on the left will potentially hinder his development, if he has dreams to play in the premier league, i can't see him being a left back in that level of competition, he just doesn't have the pace or dynamism that a top level left back needs in the 'modern game' the fact he has fitted in so comfortably currently in the position though, is testament to his ability, he is good technically and has a good awareness for positioning, he needs to get back to centre half Now for our teams current needs, it's hard to see him removed from the left because he's massively helped shore up that side from a defensive point of view i'd actually like to see greaves and christie as cbs together... reminds me a tad of varane and rudiger and as far as i know, fleming has not been injured, he's been in the match day squad once under rosie, and not a single app, it's seems clear that rightly or wrongly, rosie does not see him as one of his starters going forward
You could well be right, Christie for example is far better than Coyle and has made a real difference on the right. A lot will depend on how we finish this season, hopefully, mid table. Traore is starting to look very good in training I hear, he, along with Tetteh and Allahyar back is going to make a big difference.
Re Jacob Greaves... I think when he reruns to a centre back role he will be a better player for having had to cover at LB. Positional awareness etc..
I don't see how adding another string to his bow can rationally be turned around as being bad for his development.
To my mind both Elder and Fleming are perfectly good LBs at this level, and Fleming is likely to still improve. I find it odd that more recently we've been choosing to play without a proper LB.
It's a shame you don't consistently post like this. When you make a proper point you have good insight. Less of the trolling and you'd be one of the best on here.
