Wow. Not great at all but a win. Please play 4-4-2 with more offensive players. Got to get an upgrade on A Armstrong in this window.
Have to expect some rustiness against a team who have been playing regularly the last few weeks, a new manager and a cup tie against lower league opposition where they would be bang up for it. As I said only saw the second half but thought it was a professional and pretty comfortable win all things considered
Bottom line, ignoring those two missed sitters, VAR would have ruled out our first and would also have given them a penalty at 1-1. We were incredibly lucky and if NJ doesn’t acknowledge that, I will be very disappointed. I will be even more disappointed if he dresses it up as a good performance.
I’m putting the first half down to rust. Second half a bit better. Biggest positive is the energy. Chasing down everything and getting stuck in. Haven’t seen that for a while with Saints.
Mods. Does this mean I am continuing with the cup games? I lost the last League match so someone needs to step up for that one.
Nathan has fallen into the same trap as Ralph did, we have a leaky defence so playing three CBs seem a good idea but it makes thing worse The three CBs look lost, we loose the midfield and it’s a waste of time knocking the ball up from the back to the strikers as they win nothing which just gives away possession
If it were solely up to me I would say you do the Brighton thread, and whenever the quarter final is you do that regardless of what’s happened in between. What do others think?
Yep, so much better when we changed shape. It may work in training, but I’m not sure we’ve seen it work in a competitive match. Didn’t that Luton fan who posted a massive post say that Jones doesn’t use wingers? That could be a concern.
The end was unbelievable. I really want to see a back of number those players. Ward Prowse is a cone in defence, and really needs someone to support him or gets shown up
On the bright side, from the BBC Sports App: The two goals represent the first time Southampton have scored more than one in a game since their win over Chelsea on 30 August. It is the first time they have reached the quarter-finals of the competition since they lost to Manchester United in the 2017 final. Things are looking up!
I think the fact Lincoln haven't had a break from competitive games and we have showed early on. We looked very rusty. 2nd half was better and TBH the result is all that matters. Bringing on Edozie and Stu changed the game. Lots of work still to be done both on and off the pitch. We can laugh about those misses now but I wouldn't have been amused had they been costly. Edozie just missed and Adams was trying to be clever and failed.
