You can pick moments to sum up his entire game that’s fine. He won a penalty, great. That was after a first half where he touched the ball 9 times despite being a midfielder, that’s not good enough. He scored twice against Cardiff, great. He’s not done anything since. I’m a massive fan of him as well for the record, but he’s not an advanced midfielder where he’s currently being played nor is he better than Seri where he’d play if he was moved.
i feel like if you're going to judge slaters 2 goals at cardiff as some benchmark for him being a good player, then it's eveneasier to judge him on being a poor player he has 4 goals in 65 league games for us the cardiff brace is a rare outlier fact is, he's bang average really and i can't see how he's going to be in the starting 11 by feb
It's a boring debate really, he's average in the same way that Corry Evans, David Meyler, Dean Marney and Junior Lewis were. They all won promotions with us. Our recent history is full of successful sides containing midfielders who were never considered the most skillful, and who people always wrote off and insisted would have to be replaced if we were to succeed. But as it so often turns out, there is a place for them in a successful team.
Nobody’s hating on Woods. He and Seri work okay when we have a lot of the ball. They both struggle physically when we don’t dominate possession. It doesn’t help that they’re similar players i.e. deep-lying playmakers. I actually agree with Shark Sports for once. I think Smallwood and Seri would be better than Woods and Seri in this team.
I know you’re taking the piss but the whole point of a ‘double-pivot’ is that one’s a physical ball-winner like Rodri, Vieira or Busquets and the other’s a more technical player like Seri. Seri and Woods are too similar.
And theres far better ones than him If you think we get promoted with him in the side You'd be in a strait jacket
Meyler and Marney were not average. They were very good CCC level players who proved they could even do a job at PL level and for Ireland in Meylers case. Slater is average at CCC level at very best, and that's being very generous
They're all very comparable. People now in hindsight say they were all good and acknowledge their importance. At the time people said the exact same things people say now about Slater. It's a timeless thing.
3/5 games under Rosenior. Only 2 we haven’t was Millwall where we had 10 men for 50 mins and Watford.
