A total disgrace. They then quote: Fifa's regulations regarding players' equipment are that they should not carry any political, religious or commercial messages. So what is the problem?
Quite right miff although i would not have sat on the fence with the statement as much as you did lol.
Political. So no vote rigging ever again at world cup nomination. Religious. So Israel to now play their world cup group matches in the Middle Eastern zone Commercial. Well no MR Blatter we would not want to be seen making money at Fifa would we. Stitch the Poppy on anyway. None of them like us anyway. See World Cup Host vote.
Can't be anything to stop them wearing a black arm band with an embroidered poppy on it. If it was me, I'd have them wearing a poppy the size of the shirt and then for the squad to turn around after the national anthem and bare their arses to FIFA and tell them to **** off for any fines.
If I were in charge at the FA I would ignore them and wear them all the same. In a civilised society the people have to make a stand against bad laws or bad governance. Call it civil disobedience. However, as the FA have always been proved to be eunuchs, I suspect that they will just meekly lie down over this.
FIFA would not even exist without the sacrifices of our parents, parents and of those that still die for our freedom today. One pleasing aspect of the game yesterday was the impecable minutes silence and the applause around the ground (including the WH fans) for the young RAF guys & girls parading their colours pre match.
Wear them anyway. Showing our respect for all the people who have helped and currently are helping to protect our country is more importnt than obeying to FIFA's ridiculous rules.
FIFA are a ****ing joke, If it was possible i,d have the team to wear them. Any consequences would put Fifa in a very bad light
What's FIFA's problem? It's a mark of respect to commemorate our war dead and should in no way cause offence to anyone, in fact it's something that all the countries in Europe can relate to. FIFA lose more and more credibility with every decision they make. Maybe they should meet soilders and their families to realise the poignancy of the poppy and how much wearing them means to people.
I agree with this, challenging and punishing the English FA/players over wearing a poppy would be something that would not put FIFA in a good light with everyone.
Maybe England should wear white poppies on their shirts? Nothing nationalist or political about that.. or at least nothing that doesn't apply to any nation on earth.
I'd tell FIFA to **** off and if we can't wear our poppies on our shirt we will just cancel the game out of principle. Lets face it the game means nothing it's just a friendly and most of the players probably do'nt want to play it and I sure as hell wont be watching it. Is there anyone on here who really gives a damn about that result?
FIFA is based in Switzerland, a country that was renowned for having Nazi leanings in the late 1930's to early 1940's, which was why the illegally confiscated Jewish gold and money was deposited there. Perhaps they have less reason to acknowledge the 11th Day of the 11th Month than we do.
