As someone posted it was very small margins against France. Take two situations with Harry Maguire - firstly his attacking header from a corner shaves the outside of the post with the keeper beaten. Secondly, Giroud’s header for the 2nd goal takes a wicked deflection off Maguire’s shoulder and just inside the post, out of the keeper’s reach. If those 2 incidents went 6 inches either way you have a very different situation. Having said that, I always felt France could step up a gear if needed. After it went 1-1 they did just that and we were really stretched, culminating in Giroud’s goal.

Could it be Messi’s turn with Argentina to lift the World Cup? They’ve finally managed to build a team around him and were very impressive this evening.

It took to the first goal for the game to get going but once it did the Argies grew in to it and took the Croats apart really... Could be a good final should the French make it, as i fear if Morocco did it could be defence v attack for 90mins...!!

So pleased for Messi that he gets his World Cup. He has been an absolute legend, one of the top 5 ever.

France’s luck ran out - how sad <laugh>

Congratulations to 18 year-old Rehan Ahmed on a magnificent 5-48 for England against Pakistan. The tourists need just 55 runs on day 4 with 8 wickets remaining to claim a 3-0 series whitewash.

Ahmed's bowling is a breath of fresh air, a lovely mixture of leg spinners and he certainly isn't afraid to give a delivery plenty of air. Certainly one to look forward to for many years to come.

Yep, happy for Messi, he deserves it. However, one or two of the Argentina players are nasty sods, but in the end won the cheating game against France who are no slouches themselves. A great Final though, and one just could not tell who was going to pull it off.

So, the greatest final ever...!! Well it was once the Frenchies got themselves back in to it, then it really was an epic ;who's gonna win it next; type of game. Got to feel for young Mbappe,hat-trick and all that, though i feel his cv will be enhanced once again in his hopefully long football career.

As for Messi, well he's got the one thing that some people put against him that hadnt won a World Cup as to try and knock the little man down with. Had he not helped steer the Argies to win the cup then he still would have been one of the greats. Without question...

Incredible turnaround for the team in such a short time. 18 months ago we refused to chase a sporting 270 odd in 73 overs against NZ at home and now we’re smashing 500 in a day away from home. There will undoubtedly be bumps in the road but this team is fantastic to watch. And a 18 year old leg spinner as well. Tremendous.

The up and coming Ashes has the potential to be better than the brilliant 2005 series that we won under Vaughan...

It certainly is a new era for Test Cricket, and i cant wait for the ride...!!

Sad to read that George Cohen has passed away.

George Cohen, the right-back in England's World Cup-winning team of 1966, has died aged 83, his former club Fulham have announced.
Cohen played every minute of the victorious campaign on home soil and in total won 37 caps for his country.
Fulham wrote on the club's official Twitter account: "Everyone at Fulham Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our greatest ever players - and gentlemen - George Cohen MBE."

Cohen spent his entire club career with Fulham, making 459 appearances for his hometown side.

Well played Michael Smith in winning the Cazoo World darts title last night beating the ogre looking Michael Van Gerwin, or MJG for short, 7-4 for his first World title. They both however played the leg of the century as ole Smiffy checked out a 9 darter just after MVG missed double 12 to register his own 9 darter at the same time....!!! Sport at it's very very best...

A very special and magical moment for all who were lucky enough to see it at the time...<applause><applause>

Thought Tamerlo would enjoy this. What a side Burnley were in the late '50s early '60s.
