Ronaldo proved himself in the toughest league, not like Messi who stayed in his safe Spanish bubble for most of his career..
    Ps
    Not a fan of either.

It's your own fault for expecting in-depth analysis from a sports hack.

    I have to agree
Having a similar discussion last night
    I actually think
Xavi Iniesta Maldini are all better players imho
Why are all the players defined as the best of all time usually forwards or attacking
    Defenders are very underrated
Kante type players who are critical undervalued massively
    Always found that interesting

I can’t stand Messi, or Argentina. I didn’t want him to or them to win. He isn’t fit to lace Maradona’s boots.

So you agree that messi only did it in Spain then say xavi and iniesta are better despite both having done exactly same as messi?

And forwards are generally always given more credit and adulation because sticking the ballin the net is the hardest thing to do in football.

Would have thought saving a penalty is the hardest thing to do in football.

Not sure what you are getting at as it was a general comment
Yes they did the same by staying in the same league but I think they are better players ?

I was answering the ronaldo v messi debate then I went on as a generalisation, I feel, that forwards get all the plaudits

the notion that the hardest thing to do in football is to stick the ball in the net imho shows a fair amount of disrespect to the other positions and is not a view I personally subscribe to

forwards get the adulation because most who don’t appreciate the rest of the aspects to football only notice those that put the ball in the net - again that is imho and a generalisation on my part

Also - if we are looking at general statements such as putting the ball in the net being the hardest thing to do in football then we can also look at those who claim that being a goalkeeper is the hardest position in football due to the fact that if you make a mistake it’s a goal

a forward can miss 20 shots and score a worldie and be remembered for it

A goalkeeper can make 20 saves and one mistake and be remembered for the mistake

guess it depends on how you view the game
ronaldo messi etc - They are fantastic players but I personally believe there are better ones out there

if you want a real hoot - someone on the Prem board was putting Kane in the same boat as Messi Pele and Ronaldo lmao <laugh><laugh><laugh>

I was just typing about goalkeeping
Clearly I am not the only one who believes that
    Which is good
Was beginning to think I was slightly mad <laugh>

Given how many penalties are saved, wouldn’t say it’s that hard. Guess the right way and you have a very good chance of saving the ball. Especially against players who generally have a preference and with all the analytics and data they have on players these days.

Surely stats are that more pens are scored than saved
I have no idea but I would imagine more are scored then a tough choice between missed and saved
    Surely ??
Got to think the odds are in the forwards favour ?

100% more are scored. But given how many are saved surely shows it’s not the hardest thing.

Also look how many goals are scored compared to saves are made in general
play. Given more shots are missed/saved rather than scored surely that shows that it’s harder to score a goal than save a shot?

The logic is Messi stayed at one club virtually all his career and has been protected by referees throughout his career. As soon as anyone looks at him he falls over and is given a foul. Nobody is denying Messi is an exceptional talented footballer but Maradona was a level above Messi & Ronaldo. He got the crap kicked out of him every time he took to the field in an era where he got no protection. He went to Napoli and carried them to 2 titles. He carried Argentina to the 86 World Cup win. As person, Maradona left a lot to be desired, drug addict , cheat, but he was a footballing God.

Not so sure it’s loyalty as a bad thing
I think it’s just the fact players have torn it up in different leagues

it will always be a debate and I suppose it can never be definitively answered due to the subjective nature

I suppose it’s a bit like the different surface debate that surrounds tennis an GOATs

what I can safely say is
They are all infinitely better than myself lol <laugh>

I don't think time is on our side. More countries are developing and have the money to spend on training and developing players. More countries are becoming more professional, etc. Competition is just going to get more fierce over time. Each World Cup we'll be less likely to win than the one before.
