Yeah I think I’m more towards your view tbh, I think I’m a little disappointed that brand and Miriam didn’t word their disgust better and I’m not outraged at Clarkson, I mean the guys whole persona is of a misogynistic old fart, so it’s hardly a surprise. Opinion polls suggest otherwise, but then you're usually completely out of touch with the majority of people in this country.

I wouldn't seek to defend any of those, but I think there are big differences between them and this Clarkson example. Firstly, they were all made about politicians, who I would argue are closer to fair game than Meghan Markle is. More importantly, they were all - I would presume - off the cuff remarks, in contrast to Clarkson's carefully chosen words published in one of the country's most widely read newspapers after having gone through an editorial process.

Clarkson deliberately chose to invoke images of a naked mixed-race woman being ritually abused and humiliated in circumstances akin to a lynching. The appeal to misogynists, racists, and downright perverts is obvious.

 

The polls don't distinguish between the ages and she's down there with the *****phile

I won't defend Clarkson's words because for a bloke who's writing is always over the top, his comments on Markle were over the top still further and it's right that he's apologised. But the fact is, she really is despised by a large part of the UK population, and America seem to be waking up to the eternal whinging of the Sussexes. Apparently, Gingernuts has held back some of his bile to put in his book which comes out on Jan 10, and he's doing an interview for it two days earlier.
