That's the thing though, would we be where we are with a Ross Stewart or Troy Deeney up front? Highly unlikely. You have to take your chances at this level as the opposition are so good most weeks and that's why most teams have at least one experienced championship striker in their team. Even with a fully fit squad we don't have that.
Probably lower with Deeney considering he only has 5 goals. Stewart is probably the best striker in the league overall though. Take Oscar’s goals out our side we are currently sitting bottom by 3 points.
Have you forgotten the sacked in the morning chants? A couple of wins at the end of 2 **** seasons in the champ says to me he's not a championship manager. Time will tell if he gets back obviously.
My biggest concern is that we’ve not actually improved in terms of league position from McCann and his squad of League 1 players on Ehab’s shoestring budget. Like Chazz said, some of the new lads are on north of 20k a week. Of course the fans expect better than last season when most of the squad were on less than a quarter of that.
See where we end up. That much squad churn was ways going to take time to settle down and integrate players.
That’s fair enough but I don’t think the owner realised that. He’s massively underestimated this division and thought signing some big names on big money like Seri and Tufan would have us in the play-offs for most of the season.
It's mental when you look at the league and see that we're within 3 wins of the playoffs. It's surely the most even, competitive division in the world
I take your point on the goals but a fair few of them were goals most strikers would score. He has done little else for me. Deeney and Stewart were 2 of 20 names you could pluck out as more experienced Championship options that do more than score tap in goals. Elijah Adebayo and Ben Brereton, Carlton Morris all give teams huge headaches for the duration they are on. Morris would likely cost less than Oscar and I think has got more goals this year. Oscar comes across as a plodder. When you look at Oscar, Tyler Smith and James Scott as probably the only 'out and out' strikers in our squad then you start to realise why we are in the position we are in.
Just a point on the crowd? How many were Sunderland allocated? Didn’t look to be a lot there? They fill all their allocations And why did all the silly little ****s run across to them when we scored?? Ffs
Oh 100% he needs a very certain way of playing to be effective. Not disagreeing with you but he’s provided for us so far, just needs a goal off his arse at this point to get him going again.
He’s been frozen out now, trains with the u21s along with Emmanuel and Williams. Quite harsh from Ros to do that to JE for me
If JE is recovering from what the rumours said it is very harsh unless it is a slow recovery and long road back. If it is for something else such as behaviour then he must be on his way out?
Sunderland sold out their allocation. Which makes you wonder how we would ever get a capacity crowd as you couldn’t use loads of the empty seats next to them for home fans. Badly designed stadium. The reason they ran across is they knew there was no chance of actually making it to them. Posing. They wouldn’t have charged at Sunderland fans on Bunkers when you were right next to them.
Dont you feel like Tom Eaves 'provided' for us though? When Acun came in I got excited and hoped we would start going for proper dangerous players at this level like some of those I have mentioned. It is exciting having a Colombian, Iranian and Ghanian along with Greek, Turkish and god knows what else but it was just too much too soon and we are now crying out for a horrible **** like Deeney or Billy Sharp. That is where the money should have gone in my opinion.
