I find it poor that Avanti refuse to comment and pass everything back to DfT to be honest. I would like to see who and for why any bonuses were awarded. Seems terrible, but not much detail in the article.

A fair deal is hard to define isnt it. Are they asking for a fair deal? I know I havent had a deal that would be considered fair by a union for public sector. I work in the public sector but dont have a union membership. I just hope both parties start to give a bit, we are in a broken state right now. I have spent the last 18 hours trying to get healthcare help and it has been a poor experience, with a difficult to manage outcome. I wont criticise staff for that, they have worked miracles for me over the years, but this current stand off across services is damaging.

Oh, your grandad died because the house was too cold this winter? It's his own fault for not having a draft excluder.

This terrifies me mate. People passing away through no heating. I never thought I would see the day so much financial support was needed. I know people who are actually scared of putting the heating on because of the cost. I have an elderly neighbour who I try to keep an eye on. She isnt on the bread line by any means but I popped in this week and her house was cold. I said she should have the heating om but she said she couldnt work out what it was going to cost her so was being careful. I wonder if there is anywhere people can actually get a quote in effect per hour of heating? I think it might help a lot of people worry a bit less, although I do appreciate for many it is unaffordable full stop.

Pity she didn't live in France where THEIR government banned astronomical price increases as they OWN the suppliers. Ironically the French also own a lot of ours after the Tories sold the family jewels to them.

It's amazing how things become 'the norm'.

People talk about cheerily talk about food banks and what a good job they're doing ...

... and how pensioners can economise by wrapping loft insulation round their legs.

We are rapidly going back to the "good old days" of workhouses and poor hospitals by dismantling the welfare state bit by bit. As Neil Kinnock said, vote Tory if you like, just don't get sick, don't get old or don't lose your job. Sadly all of those things are inevitable throughout a lifetime, but hey ho the elf on the shelf will cheer us all up no end as we risk hypothermia to avoid bankruptcy. <laugh>

The over reliance on banking, insurance, stocks, etc, really worries me.

    It's all quite elitist.

It's almost as if the country is being run by and for a small group of over priveleged rich people who attended the same schools and universities, but who are somehow convincing the electorate that they are for them by the use of disinformation. <laugh>

It's funny, but maybe The Feltham Fox Flattener's book should also be in there.

I set up a spreadsheet . I take elec and gas readings every Fri morning , and putting them in the spreadsheet I can see where the current bill is heading . ( I can test out future anticipated usage, then see if I want or need to adjust my use)
Don’t know if this lady is able to use spreads , but if she is or you wanted to use it to watch for her , U’d be glad to email to you . DM me if any good .
In fact if anyone else interested , let me know , it’s a useful tool.
