That's all it was today, we played the best football I've ever seen at the KC. Wet Sham were very lucky today, that dic khead of a keeper had one of the best games of his entire career. Anyother day we'd have scored three in the last five minutes. We could have easily scored 6 today. Some brilliant performances; McKenna was fantastic in midfield, Hobbs and Chester against two very very good EPL strikers were excellent. Wet Sham will go up has champions of that I have no doubt and we outplayed them for 85 minutes. We really arn't far away are we? UTT
We're 8th and have just lost 2-0 at home after numerous spurned chances. Your arrogance is in no way warranted.
Good entertaining game again today. You win some you lose some, as long as we keep playing well I'm happy.
1st half was brilliant, i thought we fell to pieces 2nd half until the 85th minute when we woke up again, big sam obviously earnt his money in the dressing room....after the 2 goals we didnt seem to have a clue what to do, all bunched together, passing along the line with west ham comfortably keeping us out.... then we did burst into life in the last 5 and produced some good saves out of the keeper, too little too late tho in the end....2 shots is all it needs when you have quality up front.
Although we lost, we never gave up and that is something we havent done enough of in the past. It was nice to see a lot of fans in the east stand applauding the team at the final whistle. I dont think were far off the top teams. The differenc betweens the teams today was their keeper, he won it today for them, at least 4 good saves.
Sam's had teams keeping out some the worlds best strikers with his well rehearsed tactic. To come away from that with a score line that flattered West Ham is very much a positive. They were saved by an International keeper having a day when he played at the very top of his game.
but had any of our earlier chances gone in, we'd have had less players committed high up the field and therefore they'd have not got the same opportunity on goal.
West Ham had the quality to punish us in a 15 minute spell in the second half, other than that we matched them and should have put those chances away. We can take plenty of positives from today but it just goes to show that you have to put chances away when they come, especially against sides of the calibre of West Ham.
Good performance, but the achilles heel came back to haunt us, putting the ball in the net ! could easily have been 4-4 to be honest, Matty hasn`t hit the form he had last year, and for all of Macleans hard work I just don`t see the lad as a 15-20 goal a season striker. Hopefully when Waggy comes back, with Stewart gettin back up to full fitness this will shape our season and get Matty firing again. Today 20 mins after half time was the deciding factor, COLE came on and caused us problems in this period, we are still a young team, still learning, but I still have positive feelings about this season. I believe that post Christmas will be our time.
Agreed. We were by miles the better side in the midle of the park, played all the good football, had all the chances and possession but they just took the two chances they had. As usual our strikers, Fryatt in particular, are the culprits. I've tried to stay off their backs all season and defended them a lot but the last two games have really put me off them, good goalkeeping performances yes, but ****e finishing too. The ref didn't help us as I knew he wouldn't. We needed protecting from their bully players today and it didn't happen, rather predictably. They were allowed to bully us and do things how they liked. The standard of refereeing is absolutely dire in this league, I can scarcely remember a ref in the past 15 months who's actually prioiritised the job of protecting innocent players and preventing cheating above that of giving silly free kicks for technical offences just to show he is the boss. RE the above post. People need to get over the idea of a 20 goal a season striker or whatever number you choose to use, it's just nonsense. We just need the strikers to start converting the chances they create, or add to them if they don't start doing by January. It's nothing to do with any one player scoring a certain number, we just need the ball in the goal instead of straight at the 'keeper. Oh and why does Allardyce get so much credit? He has the best squad in the league and can sign just about anyone and what does he produce with those resources? A long ball bullying outfit who pack the midfield, get 11 men behind the ball and make sure everyone is over 6 foot. He's got Nolan being a right cheating twat too. Some **** teams like Watford have to play like that but with the resources they have he should be doing something like Hughton did at Newcastle, winning it the right way.
you know, that is very important, applaud the team cos they'll go out and do it again.. we've got to play this way it will work.
Just watched the FL Show on BBC iPlayer and our football was sublime at times. Just found wanting against a side with experience quality and guile and and a keeper in superb form (pity he was sh*te for England) As for Nolan that guy is such a pr*t he's embarrasing.
The reference to 15-20 goals a season is because he and Fryatt were bought as goalscorers at a combined price of 2.5million ! In this division you would expect `your goalscorer` to get 15-20 a season, simple as !!
