I don't know the absolute full details as I'm sick to the back teeth of the news just being people moaning like **** about something or other, so I'm just numb to the whole thing, but isn't it 'rail workers' and not train drivers who are striking? FWIW, old friend of mine I used to work with became a train driver. Ended up moving to Bristol for his job. He used to be a copper, in fact this was his ultimate ambition when we used to work together (in local authority). Anyway, he left the force to be a train driver as it was better pay (£50k + just newly qualified) for 'simpler' work. Not sure the drivers are the ones striking are they?
From what I remember, originally train drivers were not striking, and people wanted to make a point of that - then no sooner that point was made, train drivers were threatening to strike, I don't know if they actually did, then those same people went quiet. Archers made a point this morning that train drivers were not striking, so I take it no this time they are probably not striking, based on Archers comments, but they did threaten to join the strikes or participate at some point. I think the Aslef industrail action has been settled but I could be wrong. I know that Mick Lynch was banging on this morning, something about two different unions and one having nothing to do with the other, I'll assume he was banging on about the RMT is nothing to do with Aslef, but again I could be wrong.
When all the project managers and assorted briefcase ****ers were sat at home for six months watching homes under the hammer and waiting for a cheque from Boris, guess what? The country didn’t fall apart and no **** noticed. Meanwhile the nurses, rail workers, posties, bus drivers, bin men and roadsweepers worked all through the poxy pandemic because their work was essential. So yeah, I’d say the postie out delivering in the snow is worth as much as the bloke whose job involves sitting on his arse in the warm and occasionally ringing a skip hire firm.
We don’t need these project managers…the company they work for needs them. Their jobs are not important to anyone in society and but themselves and their paymasters. They are not important cogs in our society

Meanwhile practically every NHS worker apart from frontline were sent home to work for about 2 entire years. Meanwhile every man and his dog were confined to their four walls and the fire service enjoyed its quietest period in history. Meanwhile council staff sat at home doing even less than the nothing they usually do for about 2 years. Meanwhile supermarket staff worked tirelessly to make sure the country didn’t starve to death.

I'm a construction PM and didn't take a single minute off for Covid, let alone a day. No furlough, no 'working' from home, all face to face actual work. We all carried on, no **** clapped.
Got no argument with this appeal for higher wages, I just don't think 'we worked through Covid' should be used as a reason. Or even mentioned.
Agreed ... this has more to do with the spiralling cost of living under the continuing mismanagement of the economy by an inept government and its' cronies... the only covid relevant point might be the unaccounted £37 billion of taxpayers money that could have been used to raise the wage levels that are now causing the industrial action...

Sorry mate that don't work with me. You can hide behind the Tories all you like, regardless of their thieving and corrupt ways, that don't give anyone some sort of get out clause of contributing to society, because something, something Tory. You often seem to take this as me defending the Tories, it's not, I just believe it does not give anyone an excuse to buck everyone else in society, people who do work hard to earn a crust, people that pay their dues, which entitles them to use the NHS and all the other services, dues that also pay their pension, whether it be state or private in later life. So nah mate, your social warrior bolloxs is exactly that, absolute bolloxs. To be part of a union you have join to it, to be part of a union you have to pay fees, to be paying fees from your income would mean you are paying taxes (or are within personal allowances if not), thus giving those members the right to strike within the bounds of the law - whereas anyone to the contrary of that, while also attempting to buck the system of any due taxs are not entitled to do any of that, no right to join a union to defend their rights during their working life. Like the Tories, If someone is not paying what's due to the state they are stealing from those very same nurses, that's life bro.
