One of the companies i pay by direct debit got hacked and the number of scam attempts i receive has shot up the latest being by phone from "Visa Security" who wanted me to push 1 on my handset . Fail to believe Visa would be contacting me about a suspicious direct debit request rather than my bank so ignored them .

Nothing in there that eats snails. It's also a cold water tank, assassin snails would not survive- also water is pretty soft and acidic here, I had to add chalk and magnesium to my home aquarium to keep my nerites and spixis alive. Bladder snails and ramshorns can survive any condition, but assassins wouldn't like it.

Snails need to be a certain size before they can breed. If they had been in there all along, not only would I have seen them over 10 years- there would be shells from the dead ones. I checked the tank all over, not a sign of any other (although they can hide pretty good- but if I had an established population I'd see more than one).

Yeah, baby snails can be tiny. They usually get in on plants or even just floating in the water when you buy fish. They're so tiny that they don't get noticed. The thing is though, nothing has been added in years, there's been no opportunity for snails to accidentally get introduced.- and snails tend to reproduce really quickly. One snail can quickly become a dozen- so if there were one in there for years, there would be dozens.

Scams are getting way too good these days too. I got a scam sent to me recently "from my local Honda dealership", I actually drive a Honda, but I bought it from the dealership across town, not the local one. I googled the names on the email, they were all legit names of people that worked there- but when I googled the email address I realised it was a generic one not associated with the dealership- also the phone number listed was a private cell phone number, not a number associated with the Honda dealership.

thats the problem with the company hack as they have my account details plus presumably my address etc so are able to make use of real details though this might just be one of the old style mass attacks linked to premium cost phone numbers.

At work they keep wanting me to write code that asks people for the last four digits of their Social Security Number... Giving away your SSN is a big gateway to allowing identity theft here- if you know someone's name and SSN you can easily steal their identity, sign up for credit cards in their name, etc. I hate requests like this and always fight it, I don't like gathering that information.

People think it's a nice unique way to verify who someone is but it's a liability. Until like 30 years ago, the last four digits were the only non-guessable part of the SSN. Something like 70% of Americans live near the hospital in which they were born and all but the last four digits are used to specify the hospital in which you were born (I don't think most people know that). So with just the last 4 digits, and guessing the approx age of a person, you can pretty much steal an identity by looking up what numbers were used to identify the hospital in that approximate year. I don't want to have to guard that type of liability unless I have to- especially if it's some trivial app where it doesn't matter who they are.

Yeah, here it's absurd how much personal information people want to collect. I ask "why do you want to collect that?", "oh just in case we need it"... that's not a good enough answer to randomly store people's private data! Also, I want as little liability on myself as possible

Paul Peschisolido on Neil Warnock taking the Sheffield Utd players bowling: "He convinced us all to put £10 in a pot, winner takes all. We agreed for some fun, then he pulled out his own bowling shoes and custom ball, shot 250 and took all our money."

$10 was a lot of money in those days, even to a professional footballer.

I've never been a great lover of Christmas, just a low level dislike, nothing major.

I've realised this year, why. It brings out the absolute worst in people. The self entitled, demanding behaviour. The self centred, **** everybody else approach.

All for an arbitrary date, with no real meaning anymore. An excuse for people to start drinking at 8 o'clock in the morning and eat until their sick.

Roll on boxing day, the longest possible time before more ****ing Christmas.

I like Xmas, I just wish it didn't start in early October. <laugh>. Pretty sick of all the Xmas stuff by the time Xmas day actually rolls around.

I do like the day itself though. Our traditions are a little different though. We have our big meal Xmas Eve like the continentals, and just do heavy snacking Xmas day while opening presents etc.

Usually have a couple of sherries whilst wrapping presents, but don't typically overdo the drink or eating too much.

This is another thing that bugs me, it's family time, what stopping you doing this in the middle of August?

Its time for family, shouldn't every day be time for family? I know it not manageable at times, but what stopping you doing a nice meal, banning phones and getting monopoly out on the 16th of June. Nothing.

I know I sound like a right ****er here, but its something that really bugs me.

Christmas you make the effort, **** off make the effort anyway, its your mum, your dad your brother, your sister, your mate from when you where 16.

At least if you make the effort any other day they know your not just pist and feeling a bit emotional.

You should be a bit nicer, a bit kinder, give to charity, do your bit it's Christmas. How about all year round your a bit nicer, a bit kinder, you shouldn't need an excuse.

Either everyday is special or non at all.

I think that's probably me for a bit

    Take care

... I don't disagree with your sentiment but it's something that's hard to maintain 365 days a year because of life. With Xmas being a day set aside and recognized by almost everyone, it's easier to get everyone on board and in sync to be available.

Certainly could afford the Xmas meal everyday or cost of travelling to see people every weekend. Or other costs that help make the day cosier and more family together focused.

It could be done on March 13th or Nov 27th or Jun 12th... Day of year doesn't matter, but that everyone is available and focused on the day together does.
